I stumbled upon this image today:

Looks a lot like the early designs for Bender, doesn't it?  Maybe Matt G. got his inspiration from this?

It looks sort of like that robot that looks like Bender on the Professor's flashback on "Crimes Of The Hot"

The head does... Maybe this was his inspiration.

His head really does look similiar, but I think that the looks of Bender were influenced by alot of robots from 60s, 70s comics, etc.
They were most metal in human form...

On the season one DVD, you can look at early character designs.  Bender's early designs look a lot like the robot on "Crimes of the Hot" ... and subsequently, like the above robot (I think so, at least the head).

I just noticed that the man in the picture has very similiar clothes to the ones Brannigan is wearing, down right to the yellow "stripes" in his shoulders (not exactly the shoulders, the place the arm is connected to the shoulder... oh sc**w it, you know what I'm talking about)

I think it kinda looks like Bender's replacement on Godfellas, but it's been awhile, so I dunno.  :hmpf:

Indeed.  I always thought Bender was supposed to look like a fairly generic robot as influenced by that era.  Does look a lot like Farnsworth's prototype.

Not really, more like Farnsworth's prototype, as others have said...

I've seen that before, but I can't remember where.
Exactly the same, 'cept it was (I assume) photoshopped so the girl only had 1 eye.
Ahhh, this is gonna bug me now.... where've I seen it?!

Hey! I own that picture as a postcard (I collect cheesy pulp postcards--want to make something of it?), which means I have a small amount of boring, useless information. Yay! Gather 'round, children. Turning to the back of the card, the original comic was published in 1947 by Nedor Publications. It was distributed as a postcard by the folks at Astounding Graphics, where it can be sent as a free E-card or ordered for $.75.  http://www.astoundingcards.com/cgi/order_options.cgi?sku_number=S-20031&newformat=1

There. I've successsfully wasted my own and everybody else's time. Another job well done.
