Hi, my name is ouch, for reasons which I will relate below. After Fox bounced Futurama around for a while, I lost interest. Then, thanks to cartoon network, I discovered that new episodes existed. Leela's Homeworld and Jurrassic Bark opened my eyes to a highly emotional side to Futurama that I had gotten but a mere whiff of in it's earlier years. I also learned from The Sting that Fry had not gotten over Leela as earlier seasons had me beleive. I then proceeded to watch Parasites Lost, Cyber House Rules, and The Why of Fry, which indoctrinated me with the incredible heartbreak of Fry amidst Leela's undeniably fickle and superficial nature. And yet, I could not ever think of dismissing her as, well, a bitch, because I always sensed that her unbeleivably hurtful actions came out of her naiievete and the conventions of drama and comedy that require one to suspend his or her disbeleif.

Intrueged by a captivating romance so beautiful as to make me nearly forget my own life, I turned to the interent to see what fate had in store for the star crossing lovers...last night.

I then learned about the cancellation. I proceeded to immediately download the final episode. Only...it wasn't intended to be the final episode, as I learned, which explained the lack of closure it provided.

Now Fry is eternally trapped in cancellation-limbo, never having gotten Leela to recognize his loyalty, sacrifice, and love for her! I am heartbroken by all of this, all in 24 hours. Last night, I dreamt of Futurama. today, I couldn't think about anything but the cruel fate of futurama, and Fry, who never reached his point of redeemption. My heart won't buy into the self-reflexive, metaphorical final scene of of the series for two reasons: 1) this was not intended to be the final scene, and as a result, was probably not meant to represent the union that so many think it does, and 2) The Why of Fry ended on a far more suggestive note, and that, as we all know, did not in fact signify the long-coveted union of Fry and Leela.

Hence the name: "ouch," which I promised to explain. I am heartbroken by the death of the series and hope for us "shippers". This heartbreak has compelled me to join your community to learn your way of life and how you recovered, as well as post this topic, of course!

Anyhow advice and/or consolation for a crushed person like me would be greatly appreciated. I hope you don't think that I "don't have a life" as I have been unusually idle and therfore suseptable to these kinds of things the last two weeks. Hell, I hadn't watched TV in over a year before two weeks ago. While I'm not much on emoticons, here's a crying one for laughs:

painfully yours, ouch.

Hey, ouch! Welcome to PEEL!
We all were very emotional when we learned about the cancellation of Futurama! I suggest buying the DVD's, posting on PEEL and reading peoples fanscripts and looking at peoples Fanart to continue the Futurama Legacy on PEEL that is growing more popular by the minute!

*pats Ouch on back* We've all been there... But, while the ending was pretty open-ended, I felt that it did present at least a little closure, or as much as it could under the circumstances. Also, if we keep trying, maybe we'll get it back... (Though that's the zillionth time that's been stated) But, you never know...

It's a sad tale, I hope will be passed down for years to come, either that or Futurama will be put back into production again. Fanart and fics are good therapy to ease the woes you mention here.

Just remember: "You can't give up hope just because it's hopeless! You've got to hope even more, and cover your ears and go 'blablablablablablablabla'!" (Fry in Godfellas)
Or: "Bender's right! Nothing is impossible, as long as there's one thin ray of hope!" (Fry in How Hermes...)

Anyway, welcome to PEEL, ouch! Enjoy your stay!

God dammit, that damn quote has been used so many times in threads about the cancellation, the words have lost all meaning! Jimmeny Jillicurs!

Also, if you're desperate there, ouch, try the comics. Admitedly you won't find much shipy stuff in those, but some of them don't suck that much!

That was beautiful, Ouch. You will be loved here. As for getting over the cancellation, I suggest weeping followed by Futurama commentaries!

*sighs*

I am also new here. Oh, ouch, I feel your pain! Ouch! Heh.

I think it was only after listening to the audio commentaries (and watching Jurassic Bark and crying) that I became terribly upset that Futurama was cancelled, anyway, came online, and here I am. This looks like a lovely site.

Anyway.

Have DVD to keep me company.

I have not posted in a while, but after reading that  over and over again I've cried for the first time since ??? well monday!!!  In all other TV shows the guy got the girl or the girl got the guy, to end the series.  Like in friends whats his face got whats her face and they ended that way.  And since you don't really know if Fry and Leela really got together might not be over.  I'm still optomistic.

Futurama's not dead yet!!!

I'm another new face around here, and this is the first time I have felt compelled to post.

This was a tough episode for me because I knew it would be the last. I have not been able to watch it a second time.

As for the sense of closure, I think I am happier not knowing what happens between the two. It gives me a warm feeling to think that there may be more adventures in store for Fry, Leela and the rest of the Planet Express crew (even if we never get to see them).

So many new people here.

I'm the same as robo I'm not able to watch the last episode anymore.  Not because I didn't like it, but because it reminds me that the series was killed off before its time.  I find it frustrating.

I know this sound stupid but realising that the series had ended made me feel like I'd just lost a good friend.

Criticize me if you want but I doubt I'm the only one who felt that way.

You know it's funny should say that, because I was telling all my friends the exact same thing when it happened, and what's even funnier is that most of them  did criticize me.

Oh well, I guess that's why Futurama is now cult and not mainstream.

Welcome to our world.  I watched Futurama maybe two or three times on FOX (better known as "Weasel" to me)... I would have probably watched a lot more if I knew when it was on.

Last January, while on inclement weather standby at my fire station, a fellow firefighter turned the TV on to Adult Swim, and lo and behold, it was Futurama. Ever since then, I am an almost religious viewer of [as], and one hell of a Futurama nerd.

It pains me to see the mindless drivel that is now on FOX, instead of something with the depth of Futurama. I hope that will soon change.

Some people think I am being unrealistic when I mention hope for Futurama. My usual reply is "A man can dream, though. A man can dream..."  At least that makes me feel a bit better about myself. I always say that the final episode gave us some closure, but it also left it wide open for anything to happen.  After all, there was supposed to be a fifth production season after that one.  I also really liked the opening subtitle for that episode...

See you on some other channel.

It also helps to quote Futurama as often as you possibly can. Today, someone asked me what planet I was from to which I replied: "You know what they say: Men are from Omicron Persei 9; Women are from Omicron Persei 7".

Squeaky is right!

Reasons why a Futurama movie is the best thing to hope for:

1. Cost would not be an issue. It could have the same production values as the show and leavbe nothing to be desired. FOX would be more willing to take this low risk that could potentially make a lot of money.
2. Reuniting the team won't be hard for a movie, since many teams get rebuilt for movies based on TV.
3. It would be enough to satisfy the artistic needs of the show. That is, it would offer enough time to conclude the show as its creators envisioned its conlusion -- Shipper Heaven!
4. It could become so poular that the show would be brought back, or some other kind of Futurama revival would occur.
5. It would have the glamour of being in a theater.
6. The score would probably be done by Danny Elfman, and it would be fantastic!
7. It could happen.
