Here's a question for you all.  What if Futurama had come out in the _early_ 1990's?  Instead of Fry getting frozen in 1999, he gets frozen in 1992 and wakes in 2992?  What would it have been like?  Would people have liked the show had it come out then?

Something to ponder.

I doubt it would have been any different.

Although maybe it would have become more mainstream like the Simpsons. Seeing as how it would have been the first to come out.

Also, it would not have had all the 3D stuff the show has.

But didn't the first full-length Simpsons episode air in December 1989?

The Simpsons was well established and actually good then, meaning Futurama would face some nasty comparisons. But then, was the Simpsons as embedded into culture as they were in 1999? Plus Futurama hit it's stride quickly, in terms of both animation and writing, largely because of the teams experience with the Simpsons.

Well, season 4 of the simpsons started in 1992, which is widly considered to be the best season. The Simpsons was pretty much embedded into pop culture by the middle of season 2. Futurama would have had some stiff compition at that point.

In those pre South Park, Beavis and Butthead,Family Guy and King of the Hill days Matt could have just about cornered the market with these 2 shows. Not sure if an internet chat room would have been depicted as a VR bar though, it would have been way out if was seen in the show as it is now.

The better question is, what if this thread didn't suck?
