Futurama PS2 Game...HELP!!

I just recently bought Futurama the game for PS2. I went to a number of sites to get cheats to the game because otherwise the game is pretty much impossible. The only problem is the cheats aren't working. When ever I press L1 and L2 all Fry does is change weapons. If anyone out there knows what I'm doing wrong please contact me!! Thanks.

mabye you need to pause the game when u type them in?

I tried that too but all the sites said "while playing press L1 and L2 wait for screen to flash then enter the rest of the code. the screen never flashes, he just keeps on changing weapons.
