Bender rip-off?

I just got an e-mail from www.thedoghouse.co.uk  reminding me it was April Fools (which they seem to think makes me want to buy things, go figure).

Well, the mascot they had telling me about some super cool 007 spy kit was this friendly fellow named Gadget Guru.


He looks a bit like someone I know.

I sure am glad you can unsubscribe from that garbage. You send one e-greeting to a friend, and they want to start selling you junk. Ugh!

Yes, its not exactly like Bender, but it has the antenna and it looks very much the same at a glance.

It's a cold day. A girl has just come home from school and she has decided to go on PEEL. She checks The General Board, first. She spots a thread called "A Bender Rip-off?" and clicks on it. And the last thing they heard her say was "It'll take more than a deadly, deadly picture to...OH LORD!!!"

They never heard from YLB again.

God, that's eerily similar.    Well, not *eerily* similar, but similar none-the-less.

In any case, this apparently isn't the only Bender rip-off out there.  There were allegations in one review of "Game Over" I read (I didn't see the show myself to be honest) that the dog, while not being a robot like Bender, is basically just a rip off of Bender's character.  The alien in Seth McFarlane's possibly upcoming "American Dad" also sounds suspiciously like a rip off of Bender.

But, as Groening would say, imitation/copyright infringement is the sincerest form of flattery.

It's also a good indication that the show the rip-off is in will be a poor one.  I saw some of the first episode of "Game Over" and found it to be pretty flat.  It certainly didn't inspire me to want to watch more.

Regarding that robot, I agree with everything that has been said. I also think that the robot resembles the one that was in "Godfellas" as Bender's replacement, but it does look more like Bender.
