uuuh, Futurama was cancelled because FOX didn't want to buy new episodes, not because Matt Groening was bored with the show. And yes, they were drunk and braindamaged.

They don't have the money for it. FOX still have the rights to Futurama, first CN had to by those and then on top of that find enough money to finance an entire season (at least 25 million dollar).
