One of the many reasons I like Futurama is because every character gets it.  Fry has gotten his, as did Bender, Leela, and so forth.  All the characters are treated as equals, expect maybe Zoidberg.  I'm glad Leela wasn't overly repressed  by the writers just because she has one eye, or Bender for being immoral, or Fry for being a little dumb.

yeah it makes sence to me a bit. its like they get away with what they do a little too much, but that alows for true character to come through. especially for bender.

One thing I noticed is they didn't get stereotyped as the series progressed, except maybe Hermes.

I thought his infatuation with grass was a bigger Jamaican stereotype.

And don't forget he always eats Jerked meat.... whatever that means.

Can anyone shed some light on it??

I think it's unfair how Bender gets stereotyped as a raging alcoholic. I have friends who are robots, and yes, they like to have a dring or two from time to time, but that kind of gross stereotyping just gets on my nerves!

i thought it was funny that they steotyped Hermes playing on the fact that many people have a set ideology for Jamaican people, 'tally me banana?'

It's a way of preparing and cooking meat that apparently originated in Jamaica.  No one knows where it got that name, but it's good for masturbation jokes.

I get you..... I now understand the bit in 'Bender Gets Made' When Hermes says

'Is there any meat this man can't Jerk?'

Oh how blatantly stupid and naive I was!!!   :)

jerk meat is very nice, but those thoughts are out of my head now i am a veggie, anyway- something relevant, i think a very good thing about futurama is that there are no characters that when an episode is centered around them its boring as hell- like with marge and lisa in the simpsons- i think all the episodes where they are the main feature are crap, but in futurama all the characters are interesting, and even though they obviously center more on fry, leela and bender, there are many episodes with the other characters playing the main role

Funny you should mention that.  All my cyclops buddies are upset that Leela was stereotypically uptight.  As I speak they're all writing letters of complaint to Matt Groening.

Careful. All those complaint letters might get Futurama cancelled.

First I read the title as "overly depressed" and was mighty confused. Then I read the thread, and was still confused, but on a higher level.

Actually Fry, Leela and Bender each have 3-4 times as much screentime, as any other character. (semi)-proof, yeah I know it's not statistical accurate, but it's the best there is.

But I know what you mean, the show feel pretty balanced, and I actually prefer the balanced episodes where as many characters as possible have an eqaul part to play. Casein point "Xmas Story" or "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles".
