Should Leela have been left as an alien?

I personly was upset that leela was a mutant and not an alien. it seems to be a surprise for the sake of it. although, groening has said he planned it that way from the start. so what do you think, would you have prefered her to remain a sexy mysterious alien?

Technically, she always was a mutant. 
She just believed she was alien until she found out the truth.

I like that she was a mutant...it gave her a little twist and a place to call home.

I agree that Leela being a mutant was a good touch. It also provided some of the plot with her reliving her childhood in Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles, which gave us the great line:
Leela :(to Fry) Bring beer.
Turanga Morris: No beer until you finish your tequila!
