In a Futurama Season 4 DVD commentary, David Cohen mentioned how he really liked the movie Repo Man. When you think about it, Repo Man, released in 1984, has a lot of the characteristics of Simpsons/Futurama style humor - fast pacing, quick cuts, pop-culture references, scorching social satire, trenchant one-liners, plenty of visual gags/irony, subtle jokes that are revealed after repeat viewings, and in the case of Futurama, sci-fi themes. Can anyone else think of movies or TV shows that share this sense of humor and may have later influenced Futurama and Simpsons writers? Another movie that comes to mind is Terry Gilliam's Brazil.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I can't get the name of this one movie, but I know it has a lot of humor that's close to the Futurama style, and I know it's not Repo Man. Aww Crap!

Meh, welcome to PEEL anyways.

Indeed.  Also Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

[Uncle Buck] Cameron Frye, Philip Fry, is there maybe a little similarity there? [/Uncle Buck]

It seems pretty obvious that Matt Groening
is a fan of John Hughes.
