Greetings from the planet markbo. Puny humans.

The episode  niblonians VS the brains is clearly an analogy of the earth unrelentless struggle against fascism and our struggle for an anarchist society.

Markbo is pleased that you do not understand. As the brains fly threw space they destroy thought reducing there victims to mindless drones. This is clearly an analogy for the nazi's and the italian fascists as well as franco, they are lead by a leader the big nerd at the library. I.e Dachau

The niblonians live on a peaceful planet, the planet of eternity or something. They are the key defenders and organisers against the evil brains and live amongst the rest of the people of the universe, acting stupid and pretending to be the dumb pets of capitalism. And Nibbler, lives with the puny humans of earth.

As were the anarchists of spain during the struggle of 1936-39, the anarchists were the key organisers against the fascists.

Markbo cares not for fascism.

And like durrutti said minutes before he died.

"well your the most beautiful trio of gigantic womyn i've ever seen."

So remember puny humans the only good brain is a dead brain. and guns don't kill people, MARKBO does.

goodnight

If it was so clear you wouldn't have need to post this, and then explain when I got confused.  Otherwise, good theory!

...and Fry's love for Leela is a Freudian take on our secret desire to mate with our mothers.  Or something.

Unrelentless...?

Maybe the big nerd at the library is Dewey.  And the brains represent public education as indoctrination.  And the nibblonians represent your mom.

No, I like my idea.  Fry destroys the brain with its own weapons (books), showing that true education, exercising the critical faculties, is the way to defeat the brainwashing of state-sponsored schools, thus, instead of being trapped by the brain's books, Fry is freed by his own.

The episode is calling for a large-scale student uprising against public school teachers and administrators.  Burn them at the stake, I say.  It's inevitable, really; Lindsay Anderson saw it coming in 1968.

"Rise up in the cafeteria, and stab them with your plastic forks!"

I have a different theory.  The brains wish to destroy all thought in the universe and make everyone stupid, right?  The brains represent anti-intellectualism.

I have another theorey:

People attempt to read things into shows, books etc. that just aren't there, and try to make them 10x more meaningful. This is further quashed when on DVD commentaries where even the smallest things they got ideas from are mentioned but things such as this are not.

yes yes, and in the ep, 'A Taste of Freedom.' the coy, deft Futurama writer(s) craft a searing critique on America's crusade against personal freedoms, while at the same time making an ominous warning about Israel, a nation so bent on freedom and justice that it turns into a military-state.
Showcased by Zoidberg's people taking over...

just kidding about the Israel part, though it was blatanty hinted at nontheless.

Jesus F***ing Christ, how would you like it if civilians were being blown up in your country?? That's what's happening in Israel, and peace talks haven't done a f***ing thing to stop the radicals.

Arafat's been breaking promises to get Hamas to stop bombing the civilians. The Palestinian leader turned down an offer of 97% of the Palestinian land back, because he wants ALL OF IT.

I'm not saying all Palestinians are bad, I'm saying that the ones in charge are showing no signs of a peaceful agreement. And that's why Israel has to take up arms so much. Learn some god damned history.

Wait a sec, you've changed your view... my whole argument, for nothing...

I mostly agree with you,
Arafat is a meglamomaniac, talks are all but completely stultifyed and there is no easy solution... but enough about that, let's talk about Futurama.

Dag nabit! sorry about the double post, brief lapse in cognitive areas...

well anyway, i thought taste of freedom was a great episode. And we would all do well to not over-analyze things, even if it's fun it invariably saps some of the original luster.

I've only seen it once, and I didn't think too highly of it. Nice underlying theme about how much the government sucks, though. A real issue, if someone burned a flag on a 'freedom day' of any kind, they'd be persecuted for sure in this 'ere America. 1000 years won't make a big difference.

While i may not understand all the large words like fascism, anarchists and the, i still know that this is way too much analysis of the episode. Here is a better analysis of the episode.

Part1: Zoidberg eats flag.
Part2: Something stupid happens.
Part3: Hilarity Ensues.
Part4: Profit!

I didn't like A Taste Of Freedom, for me it was waaay to cheesy in the end. And not all that funny in the end either. That was the problem it traded jokes for a message that would mean nothing to anyone outside America (though since it is and American show, it is allowed to do that I suppose...)
Though it depends what you thought the message was.
No actually I probably looked into it the wrong way.
Sod it, I'm no longer sure what I think.
