I've seen Fry throughout the whole series be so nieve and stupid.  But it was all for the purpose we found out this season.  But since the significance of that had been served, it was about time they made Fry more mature.  However, I feel that they needed to show that a little more than a result.  Referring to The Farnsworth Parabox, the Frys and Leelas went out to dinner.  Fry had shown how mature he had gotten and how stupid he was back in that unseen date we had no info about.  I could see that at the end of "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings", Fry had worked his way to a more mature Fry.  I could see that developing, but I would have really liked to SEE the Real Fry be mature.  What do you all think of that Fry?  :)

I don't mind Fry's small doses of maturity throughout the episodes - but just picture Futurama without a stupid Fry. It just wouldn't be as funny.

I agree, I think if and when the Futurama storyline is continued, I'd like to see Fry mature a little bit.  Lord knows he has a long, long way to go.  I mean, Homer matured a little bit everytime he screwed things up with Marge in The Simpsons, but still managed to remain the dope we know and love.

On the flip side, I wouldn't mind seeing Leela exhale bit by bit as thing went on.  You know, in token ways; not reinventing the character.

Being kinda stupid is all part of Fry's character... if he matures a little through experience that's just good character developement. I don't think Fry would ever have alot of common sense [I don't think it's possible for his brain, ha ha] so a real, totally mature Fry just doesn't seem in character... also, I think his stupidity is kinda cute, heh.

Homer doesn't really mature, he just stops being a jerk until they need him to be a jerk again.  Sorry, I just don't like him that much.

Speaking of which, if Futurama continues in some way, I hope that Fry and Leela's relationship is not treated the same way as Marge and Homer's, with constant "relationship troubles."  Relationship troubles are cliché and easy to do, and really don't mean anything, and I hate it when a fictional couple hates each other one minute and are madly in love the next.  It's just been done too much.  Of course, since it took so long to get them together, maybe the writers were planning on a nice stable relationship.

The way I always picture it is a graph in my mind- a line graph that goes up on a diagonal slightly from start to finish- when I think of Fry's matureity. Fry has matured, but he still has his goofy attitude (that I know and love so well) and his boyish charm. But part of this is also Leela has become a little more, easy going. More like Fry- Fry more like her. But not too much to lose their basic atitudes- and that's a good thing with me  :).

I'm sure if their relationship was shown, I would think that Fry would do pretty much all the things the black haired fry did with the fire red Leela.  I would have at least liked to see a season with a healthy relationship.  Also, if you think that his brain would prevent a good flow of common sense, look at the black haired Philip and see how he acts during the dinner.  They're both the same in brain capabilities.  The only difference is coinflips and colors.  Maybe colors were affected in a coin flip.  Hmmmm.....

PS-  Hill showed my exact point.  They both went a direction to where they could go together.
