Please forgive the following multiple posts.  For clarity sake, I'm posting each region in its own post.  I power protected (Number 1 seed should have the easiest bracket, Number 4 the hardest, and so on).  This means that the Earthican bracket is probably the overall weakest, the Martian bracket the toughest.  The pairs are listed in their bracket order, so if you want to play at home, just dump them in.

There are some interesting match-ups coming up.  After the qualifier, I will run the batches as follows:  Earthican, Neptunian, Omicronian, Martian.

Just a small clarification question from a European who happen to think basketball is boring: two episodes enter the ring to go mano a mano in a cruel, winner takes all, championship bout? The losing episode is outta heeeeere!

Is that correctly understood?

BTW, have a mentioned how much I hate seeing "A Leela Of Her Own" ranked as the worst Futurama ever? It's below "A Pharaoh To Remember" for crying out loud!

This tournament is clearly patterned after the NCAA basketball tournament which is played every March. There are four regions with the the winner of each region advancing to the "Final Four".

The tournament is one of the most popular sporting events in the US. What makes it so exciting is that the outcomes are so unpredictable making it a lot of fun to bet on.

I'm interested to see the results of this tournament. Unlike with the real NCAA, I wouldn't be surprised to see all the top seeds win their respective regions.

If this question was already answered in this topic I apologize in advance. But I have a question, how will we vote on this? How will we vote in every match in the tournament? I heard some talk about the voting being done here on PEEL, but are you going to open dozens of new threads for this thing? Wouldn't it be easier to make a webpage and allow people to vote for all the match-ups (the first round matches anyway) all at once?

The worst episode is, in my opinion (not yours, objectionable people), The Cryonic Woman. Though LA in the future was kinda amusing ("Kids! Time for Hebrew School!" ) other than that the humor was rather poor.

That is it exactly.  And then winner moves on to play the winner of the next pair.  In other words, 1 vs. 16 plays winner of 8 vs. 9. which then plays the winner of the 5 vs. 12 and 4 vs. 13 match, and so on.  Also, to clarify, The semifinals are Earthican v. Neptune and Omicronian v. Martian.

And I agree with you on "A Leela of Her Own."  It isn't a great episode, but I can think of worse.  Half the fun of this is that we will see if an episode with a low CGEF rating can move on.

A agree that the the number 1 seeds are pretty protected, but that is the privlidege of number 1.  I would note that there is a good chance that "Parasites Lost" will face "Jurasic Bark" in the second round.  That could be very interesting.

Voting will be done here, which unfortunately means a few threads.  I simply don't have the knowledge to design something (and Marc said he was too busy).  You also get the benefit of limited voting and the self contained discussion.

I didn't really think of this when I started, but it should be interesting to see people justify their voting in one round, and then have to change or re-justify it in the next.  Every round should have a few very close votes.

Speaking of which, any idea of what to do in case of a tie?  My current leaning is that a tie at midnight of the closing date means a recheck after 24 hours.

Bobby:  please read the top of the page post.  I hated to do multiple postings, but one giant post with all the brackets would be hard to read.  Better, for clarity sake, to break them up.  I appreciate the concern though.

I'm looking at a start time in 27:30 hours for the qualifier (midnight PDT (-7GMT) Friday/Saturday).  The qualifier will run through next Friday, and we can hopefully fine tune this all from there on.

Well, the tournament is up and running.  A lot of cut and pasting, but it was worth it, I think.  As I have said, I hope we can get the kinks out in the qualifier, so all feedback is welcome.

Here are the Brackets for the qualifier round (56-72).

Bend Her (64) vs. Kiff Gets Knocked Up A Notch (65).  Winner is the 64th seed and will take on Parasites Lost (1).

Spanish Fry (63) vs. Bendless Love (66).  Winner takes on The Devil’s Hands are Idle Playthings (2).

Where the Buggalo Roam (62) vs. I Dated a Robot (67).  Winner to face Xmas Story (3).

The Route of All Evil (61) vs. Bending in the Wind (68).  Winner to face The Luck of the Fryish (4).

Leela’s Home World (60) vs. The Cryonic Woman (69).  Winner to take on The Deep South (5).

Mother’s Day (59) vs. A Pharoh to Remember (70).  Winner to take on Amazon Women in the Mood (6).

Three Hundred Big Boys (58) vs. That’s Lobstertainment! (71) Winner plays The Problem with Popplers (7).

Less Than Hero (57) vs. A Leela of her Own (72).  Winner to play Roswell That Ends Well (8).

Ummmm... this competition seems really annoying to me. Sure, it's a good idea - but it's not being done very well. The General Forum is clogged with "Fall Madness" polls, and nobody's going to appreciate that.

I opened a temporary Fall Madness Forum as the threads were clogging up General Dis's'cussion too much.
Only admins/mods and Lionel can post topics, everyone is free to reply. The thing will be closed once the series is over and the final thread moved over to General again.
