Third to last time:

  • no posting before the episode started on the east coast
  • go away if you don't want to be spoiled

  • reviews/general discussion here, weird things etc in separate threads
  • no opening your own review thread to get around the closedness of this one.

Excellent episode and the ending was great (though I'm sure some will disagree). Definately one of my favorites from Season 4/McSeason 5.

Whee I'm here already because I don't have anything to do for another hour!

Definately not one of my favorites, but still a good episode. Probably my least favorite of the last three (and I'd guess the last five). It was enjoyable none-the-less.

Amusing parts:
-Ship getting beat up (poor ship)
-Amy's haircut
-"Save my friends and Zoidberg!"
-"I love you Bender!" "Okay."
-The opening title. Hilarious!

I like Benders "bite my splintery wooden ass line" most of all. I just wish they had more eps where he was made of wood.

funnier than last weeks...but thats not saying much. The episode was average, but I'm acctually beggining to hate bender...I'm so tired of him. But, if it hadn't followed up a similar episode last week than I would probably be in a better mood. Over all I wasn't satisfied, but I will be checking out the new avitars.  :D

My review from Nohomers.net, slightly edited:

I enjoyed it more then Tomacco(my note: he's a member over there) did, and I thought it at least had fairly consistant humor, but definetely not a great ep. I think the main problem with it, like with most Bender eps, is that it excluded the other characters too much for the sake of Bender-craziness, but in this case it actually excluded the other characters through almost the whole episode, rather then simply pushing them into the background a little too much like most other Bender eps. So that certainly didn't help. I also rather think that the Fox description (what were they high on when they posted that though? The ep was finished over a year ago...) sounded like a more clever and thoughtful episode, but I guess they decided to go with Bender craziness instead. Still, I enjoyed it enough (which is more then I can say for Three Hundred Big Boys, which I feel is the one truly shitty ep), and felt there were enough humorous moments to keep it from being a disaster.

Probably B-/C+. 3/5

I'd have to say though, this hasn't been the best season. Most episodes, save for the few highlights, are merely functional/competent, unlike, say, season four where nine out of the 12 episodes were practically highlights. Its been okay, but we need more "Godfellas", "Roswell that Ends Well", and "Leela's Homeworld" type hits. The next (and last) couple episodes sound a lot better then this one though.

I hope not, I thought he was kind of cool! But seeing as the series is almost over you're probably right. Which also begs the question, will we ever see Cubert again before the end of the show

Well, maybe it doesn't...

I found the episode to be quite entertaining.  IMO it wasn't as good as "Bend Her", but it was a fun episode nonethless, better than "Spanish Fry".  I loved bender and the "beer-nip" sequence.  (The secret is to scratch really really hard!)  As for the ending, I thought it was adequate.  Looking back on it I should have seen it coming, but it was still interesting.

Also, about the "1-X Compatibility Upgrade", I guess all it does is make the robot like the 1-X?  Too bad there's only one more episode sequentially.  1-X surely would make an appearance somewhere.  (As it's still functioning and a very useful tool for the PE crew)

Very entertaining episode, and the ending had a nice surprise.
I really liked when Bender and the robots from the island were vandalizing all technology in the city.  To me, it seemed like a reference to Fight Club(good movie!).

I found that the episode had an interesting mind game.
At first, after Roberto went through the upgrade, I agreed with Bender in that he shouldn't get the upgrade; that it would brainwash him.
But after the "upgrade trance" that was the episode, Bender decided that his upgrade was preferrable and necessary(having the same outlook on it as Roberto), and I came to that conclusion too.
Funky stuff.
Good job writers!

Anyone else noticed that Cartridge Unit spoke like two-three times without inserting/having a tape inserted? Also, how could "State the obvious" contain what it did?

Ok, this was not the greatest episode, I'd ever seen. The 1-X robot was actually kind of stupid. Note that he's the only robot we've ever seen on Futurama with no personality, just a bot that does what he was programmed to do. We won't see a return of that thing, he was just there to further the plot (which wasn't all that great)

Also, where is Fry's soul? It's not Devil's Hands yet, he can't have sold it already. Bender must have a soul chip. I didn't even know robots had souls. Therein lies the joke, but it still makes one wonder

This was better than last week's, but not that great. But it still had its moments. I don't get Bender's sudden mood swings that are contained in a single episode. First it was his desire to be remembered, and now it's his rage against technology. I'd give it a B-, but I usually get more out of it when I watch it a second time, so I'll be back when I do. Also, Amy's hair apparently grew back in time for the next episode in producion order, 4ACV15 "The Farnsworth Parabox".

I thought it was a good episode. Lots of funny moments. The ending made no sense but a little insanity is alright. Lots of jokes throughout the episode, and the old robots were amusing. Casette player bot especially.

OK, first, welcome to PEEL, VGZed, if no one else welcomed you. And to Coop, "Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV" will air next Sunday, August 3, followed by "Devils' Hands" on August 10. FOX wanted the first one to be the season finale, hence the title. But the creators told FOX that "Devils' Hands" was made to be the series' ender, so they changed it.
EDIT: Damn you people post quickly!

Shadowstar, remember that most of the episode(the island, Amy's haircut) was just a trance that Bender was going through while he was being upgraded.  So it didn't really happen.
Which is cool, because I think Amy's original haircut is better than the one she got from the fire.

you got the joke backwards Allen. Fry wasn't missing a soul, the machine went off because it detected that the soul was there.

This one was pretty good.  I thought the first act was the best of the three, and kinda went downhill a little after that.  Highlights include the 1-X Robot coming in a plastic case, the scene with Nibbler, Bender's "HELF" rocks (that was great!), the cassette robot's "What?" tape, "Save my friends...and Zoidberg!", and Hermes checking his watch then resuming a surprised look.

Outside of those and a few other lines, the latter two acts were pretty shallow on laughs and not that great in story.  It's not a perfect episode, but it's good enough.  Better than Spanish Fry, but possibly a little worse than Bend Her.  3.5/5

ONLY TWO EPISODES LEFT! *cry*

I'll just paste what I wrote in the other thread (btw, sorry about that, heh).

Really? I thought the 3D ocean looked a bit fake.
I think the robots were the real stars in this one, like the nanny-bot at the beginning, the water wheel bot, the crazy stabber, the cartridge bot, etc. Some good jokes and we get the third incarnation of Beder's ass! (after shiny metal and glorious golden). The episode was very Bender-centric but overall I liked it although the end was kinda weird.

I liked the episode. Was entertaing, made me laugh. Had some good lines. It wasn't a ground breaking portrail of the characters on the show, it didn't have a horribly complicated plot, it just was a fun episode with an interesting (but slightly uncreative) twist at the end.

Solid B episode.

This episode should get a good B+, A-.  I thought that it was really funny, with all the Bender bits.  I loved the HELF, with the zoom out to show the rest of the message, and the water robots paranoria (I don't want to die!!!).  A funny episode, that makes me wish that the show was going to be on for at least a few more years.

Im guessing that the tapes only manipulated the tone in which he said things. He could think and everything, but needs the casettes to alternate how he says what hes thinking...

OK, just got done watching it on the west coast.

I dug it.  It picked up a lot toward the end, early on, there was a lot of Bender being alone and just playing off of himself.  I realized that's not nearly as funny as when he's got someone to interact with.  The cartridge unit was very, very funny.  The ending was awesome.  It's real serious, one of those things you really ought to think about.

So, pacing problems early on, awesome one-liners, great twist ending, B+.  Maybe I'll think differently once I watch it again.

This was an okay ep, I enjoyed Bend Her much more.  There was some great animation in this ep. like the ocean scene.  The obsolete robots were pretty good.  I liked Bender in the trash can.  There wasn't a whole lot going on though and it seemed to drag.  The scenes with the washing machine and the catapulted rocks took too long.  It was good to see Roberto and Fatbot.  There was a few good lines, but overall kinda meh.

One of the weaker Bender Episodes. The best part was the third act when they were destroying technology. But there was so little of the P.E crew. In "Bend Her", they were around some of the time. In this one, they were barely here. Weren't they worried about Bender or something? And what was up with the ending? I would prefer they just rebuild him and the whole thing wouldn't be a dream. Overall I rate this episode a C. OK, not great.
