The 1st time I heard Katey Sagal sing was on her CD (Well) and it was very boring!  The 2nd time was on '8 simple rules...' when she sang a christmas song.  She seemed to be forcing her voice to have that Mariah Carey/Christina Aguilera sound.  Then I heard her sing a few lines in the Futurama episode 'Hell is Other Robots' and I thought it was the most pleasing and pretty voice I ever heard.

Other views?  :)

She has a nice voice. But apparently you haven't watched "Spanish Fry" yet.

EDIT: She has a CD?

I agree, she does have a nice singing voice.   I was very surprised with her singing quality when I first saw "Hell is Other Robots".
I think she may have been singing with an obnoxious tone on purpose for "Spanish Fry".

She's certainly not the greatest singer in the world, but she's a very talented voice actress, and she does have her moments when singing. I really liked her lines in "Hell Is Other Robots" and "A Tale of Two Santas".

she was singing bad in spanish fry on purpose. that was the whole joke. she was trying to save fry and ended up making it worse.

Does anyone notice that sometimes she sounds a little bit too much like Peg Bundy?  A few episodes where I think this sinks is are "I dated a Robot" and "I, Roommate."  Anyone else think this?

She tries to sound like Peg in "A Bicyclops Built for Two."

There's a Fran Drescher-style word annunciation (not the scratchy annoying voice) to Peg (yes, I know that Married...with Children was before The Nanny.)

Oh, and I'm quite aware that bad singing was the joke in "Spanish Fry," but FFan was commenting about how great she sings in Futurama - I just pointed out the one[/i][/u] exception.

Didn't she used to sing backup for Bette Midler or someone like that? I loved her singing in 1ACV09, cos that song isn't all that easy to sing because of the accidentals in the first line.  She'd have to be pretty good technically to sing parts of it.  Haven't heard the CD though, so I don't really know.

Irrelevent to the topic but how come katie segal has not done  any commentries yet and why do john demaggio and billy west etc keep mentioning her with sarcastic tones??

Because she has to do a sitcom, besides, John and Billy do several voices on the show, and she does only one (or two).

But I think that the main reason is that she had simply no time for the recording sessions...

When are they sarcastic about her? I missed that!

I doubt that they spoke about her in a sarcastic way...

I didn't think they did, but...
But if you look at season 3, you can see that they really only use people who do a lot of voices - Tress MacNeille and Maurice LaMarche for example - as far as I can tell, Katey doesn't even do incidentals, so it would sorta break the trend.

But still she voice one of the maincharacters. Having her on the "Leela's Homeworld" audio commentary is simply a neccesity, they can't do it without her. Ofcourse I said the same about "A Leela Of Her Own". I think it's Katey's own chosing she's not on them, schedule conflict or something like that.

Back on the original topic: Katey have a fine singing voice. Practically all her songs on Futurama have been flawless. Particular the songs in "Xmas Story" and "A Tale Of Two Santas" were great.

'well' is impossible to find. although ebay has had it a few times. i've only heard one song off of it and it was 'don't hurry the harvest' i liked it ok but i didn't love it, it wasn't cause of her voice though it was just cause of the style of music. it was an older type song that she remade and i generally dislike old songs.

Speaking of Katey Sagal stuff, a few weeks ago I saw one of her older lifetime movies. My god it was depressing. the basic storyline was Katey's 23 weeks pregnant and she waked up one night goes into the bathroom and realizes she's bleeding. So she's rushed to the hospital where they have to do an emergency c-section. After they take out the baby Katey starts hemorrhaging the doctors kick her husband out of the room and of course he's panicing. before he left he saw her bleeding to death on one table while his very premature baby daughter was fighting to live on the next. So of course everyone lives, this all takes place in the first 20 minutes of the movie. But Emily (the baby) has to stay in the hospital for the first several months of her life and during that time Katey becomes close friends with Claire, Emily's nurse. After Emily is old enough to go home Katey and Claire start having 'girls night out' every Tuesday and generally become best friends. then Katey gets cancer and is told that she only has 6 months to live. She is horrified. A because she is dying and B because she really wanted to be to Emily what her mother was to her. So Claire tells her to write Emily letters that she can read when she's older, which Katey does. Katey also decides that she wants Emily to have a mother and decides that Claire would be the best choice and so begins to try to convince her husband that she wants him to call on Claire after she is gone, an idea which he refuses outright. Then comes the night she dies. Right before she asks to see her baby and then I had to sit through a scene where she tells her baby goodbye. I was absolutely wailing by this point. then she says good-bye to her husband and then she dies. A year or so later her husband starts dating Claire and eventually he marries her. his dead wife's best friend. Based on a true story too. in any case Katey was amazing and I wish I taped that movie. I wish she would do more movies.

Katey Sagal is a wonderful singer. She's the only "Futurama" voice actor (nay, the only person) who could make the line "He'll hunt you down and blast your ass from here to Pakistan" sound beautiful. Even when she sings along to "We're Whalers on the Moon", it sounds nice.

I think her voice is great.
There is a track by  Grand Pubah called "East Coast guys, West Coast girls" - it sounds exactly like her doing the back-up - probably isn't but check it out and you'll C what I mean.

I was very tempted to aquire some of those songs from "Well" off AudioGalaxy (since "Well" is impossible to find anywhere and has ceased production) but then AudioGalaxy went sort of bye-bye thanks to the capitalist pigs at RIAA.

I think she has a great voice and is a very talented actress.

What is sad about the story Venus told is the fact that Katey's had a really depressing time in her own life.
Mother died when she was quite young. Father (Boris) died on a film set (head hit by rotorblade... :( ) by the time she was about 20-25. She had to look after the rest of her family from then.
She's had a misscarriage (spelling?) and several marriages then had a real-life pregnancy that also became a massive feature on MWC only for her child to be still-born.
Pretty depressing.  :(

Yes, and noted by Freddie Bannister in his book "There Must Be A Better Way".

But if anyone knows who that is I'll be very surprised (but impressed!)

Didn't she do an ad for Wonderbra too? Did she sing?

I was watching funniest wedding outtakes and Katey was the narrator and she randomly plugged Futurama twice. it was great. Completely out of the blue.

Yes,
I also just watched it and was suprised that she plugged it twice!  Excellent.  I watched it mainly to hear her voice (I love it).  For some reason Cincinnati's local FOX affiliate did NOT mention Katey's name in the rolling credits at the end so I emailed them and complained :)

That voice is the main reason I haven't started hating Leela yet  :). What a surprise, I thought, after hearing it first time I watched non-translated episode. It (voice) had some magic, for sure, especially in Hell... and in Elves... songs. Only later have I found out, that Ekaterina Borisovna Shagal is my former fellow countrywoman! Good work, Ekaterina! Go, russian girl!

I think Katey Sagal has a great singing voice, and a great voice overall.  I'm surprised that she hasn't had more voice work than she's had. I'd love to see her voice another character either in a movie or on another tv show.
