An invention is the modification of an already existing concept. An innovation is something which is completely new. Therefore he could have invented that particular spaceship

Since time had passed from when he asked the what if machine what would have happened if he had invented it to when he actually invented, it causality had altered. The what if machine would have displayed what would have happened if he had invented it then and there otherwise asking the same question with completely different parameters would result in the same outcome. The invention of the finglonger might have been inspired by the what if machines display which alters the causality.

Not you really, more the ones that post annoying pointless threads that cause said problem.

Dictionary.com offers up:

invention - 2. A new device, method, or process developed from study and experimentation: the phonograph, an invention attributed to Thomas Edison.

innovation - The act of introducing something new.

So both are right. Let's not get bogged down in semantics here. The profesor invented the ship, and the engine, which was in itself an innovation on exisitng engine design.

I personally agree with Teral's theory about the finglonger.

So farnsworth could have invented the PE starship, it qualifies as a new device that uses a new method or process to a similar end as other ships perhaps but not identical.

Okay, we get the point that you like the smellascope, you don't have to keep going on about it, geez...

Anyway, I'll vote for the Death Clock. Sure, it wasn't a good invention - but it lead to a hillarious gag (the fact that he forgets he's already invented it twice).

He didn't actually build it, but I think it can qualify as what we are really getting at it is the type of stuff he likes to invent, so my favourite would be his proposed replacement for Bender 'Some kind of mechanical monster, with *Sorry I don't remember*, and a heart as black as coal'. I just love the idea of his enthusiasm for this kind of terrifying creature outweighing the practical considerations of working with it as part of the crew. Oh, and if someone can fill in the I don't remember bit I'll be pleased. I suppose I could do it on Monday if I watch it at the weekend. I'm rambling. Sorry.

"Better yet, I'll build someone to fill on for you. Some kind of gamma powered mechanical monster, eh, with freeway onramps for arms and a heart as black as coal..."

Oh, and keep in mind that the What-if machine is only accurate to withing one tenth of a plausibility unit.
He could've invented the finglonger without doing what the What-if machine told him he would do if he did.

Anyway, my vote goes to... The machine that makes noses and analyzes things.

edit:
typos.

You've pooh-pohhed his electric frankfurter! Nobody mentioned it. Plus, can anyone think what it might have actually done? It might be fun to come up with theories. (But then again it might not)

i say the albono apes and the professor did invent the ship and the engines were his specific design because in a clone of my own we find out that only the professor knows how the engines work so he is the only one who can fix them and it is up to cubert to fix
