Hello.  Long time lurker, first time poster.  I've been a horrible Simpsons nerd for a few years now, but in the past year I've also become a horrible Futurama nerd, so after a while of lurking it just made sense to join.  Those who post at the No Homers Club will know me by the same username.

Anyways, for my first post I thought I'd bridge the gap with a subject regarding both shows.  What are your favorite references to The Simpsons in Futurama?

My favorite is definetely the Bart Simpson dolls in "A Big Peice of Garbage".

I don't have one.  I like my Futurama and my Simpsons light years apart.

Hi, and welcome to PEEL. We already have a few Simpsons in Futurama threads in the Re-Check/Weird Scenes area (although the last one did turn into a bit of a free for all)

The Bart and Homer dolls in "Mars University". A nice sign how Simpsons is a fictional cartoon show in the Futurama universe. To show that Futurama is a different show, and it shouldn't be compared to Simpsons, or thought about as Simpsons in Space. In hindsight a futile attempt, many people think this is "just" Simpsons II.

My favourite Simpsons reference in Futurama is the Bart Simpson dolls in A Big Piece of Garbage, too.  :D

Yes, I think Matt Groening has said he takes a "Simpsons is fictional, Futurama is real" stance on each show, in that Simpsons is a show that they watch in the Futurama universe.

Still going strong after 1000 years. Although fans agree the last 500 years isn't as good as the first 500 years.

Welcome to PEEL, DotheBartman. Enjoy it here.

I also like in Big Piece of Garbage with the Bart Simpson dolls. Another good one is in one of the Futurama comics (issue 1 I think) were it has Homer's head next to a tub of Play-Doh but all you can see it the Doh part. I thought that was rather clever.

I like the clip of the simpsons short (at least I think it's one of the shorts) in the opening credits of "Fry and the Slurm Factory"

Yup, my favorite too. I love how subtle it is, and how you'd really have to be paying attention to get it.

The only problem with the "Simpsons is a TV show, Futurama is real" stance is that they put Bender in an episode of The Simpsons.  How do you explain something like that away?

...incidentally, I loved seeing Fry in the Simpsons couch gag involving the travel tubes.  :)

Eh, its still the Simpsons' producers' deal if they want slip in Futurama cameos.  But basically I think the rule only REALLY stands in terms of Futurama itself; that is, no Simpsons cameos in Futurama are allowed unless they refer to it as a tv show rather then living characters within the universe (HS loves MB is okay since it could apply to anyone else, and is subtle rather then having Bart talking to Fry or something).

As for other Futurama cameos in Simpsons though, I think Kif shows up in THOH X, and the internet company in "I am Furious Yellow" is supposed to have a Horrible Gelatinous Blob figure somewhere in their office I think.

There's a lot more than 3  :)

Knowone's mentioned Blinky the fish being in 'Space Pilot' yet, or Bart being used in the balloon in 'Leela's Homeworld'. But I have to agree with everyone who said the Bart Simpson dolls in 'A Big Piece of Garbage'  :)

In Leela's homeworld the balloon that is used to get out of the sewer is made up of old floats, including a part of Barts leg and head, which they mention.
