im sitting in class and someones phone starts ringing. its the futurama theme ringtone! i was like whoa WTF. so i turned around and it was this hot ass asian chick and i was like "nice ringtone". she then proceeded to tell me her name was Amy...

i so wanted to tell her my name was Fry...
You lucky bastard ... why can't I meet a hot chick obsessed enough with Futurama to have a Futurama ringtone?  Why?!

Also, I was reminded of Futurama last night.  I went camping this weekend, and last night I was walking around the campground.  I looked at my watch ... 11:30 on the nose.  So, to comemorate the starting of an episode, I hummed the song silently to myself.

(edit): Also while camping, I saw a liscense plate where the last three letters was "SNU".  Now I'm thinking about my own personalized plates.

Oh my god. I went to go see Sky Capt today and that entire movie just screams Futurama. The robots look the same and everything.

Sky Capt reminds me of a game I used to play called Crimson Skies (the table top game)

I thought that also when I saw the previews of that movie.

Speaking of Proctor-alikes (sort of), I was in danger of losing credit in my math class over mad absences. There was this troll of a bureaucrat who was gumming up the process with all her forms and waiting periods. If I followed her steps, the window for appeals would be closed by the time mine was filed. So, I carefully inspected her forms until I found a small, insignificant error. I showed it to her, and she was so embarrassed she got my appeal into the system within five minutes while I watched. Futurama remind-ness actually gave me an ass saving idea.

Today, I was getting my hair cut, and a song called "Nineteen Something" came on the radio.  Though I don't really like country music, it reminded me of Fry ... the guy singing it was talking about how he remembered the 70s and 80s when he grew up, and that he wouldn't trade those times for anything.  Even though Fry wouldn't trade the future for anything, he still missed those days...

I was flipping through the channels last night, and when I passed by Country Music Television (not that I'm in to that sort of thing), I saw the end of a concert being given by a heavyset man in mirrored sunglasses, denim, a cowboy hat, with a big beard and a guitar.  I don't know what his name is, but I only recognized him because he was the spitting image of the head of the UCLA in "A Taste of Freedom".  And yes, I did shout "Kill Zoidberg!" at the screen.

First of all, he was the head of the ACLU, not UCLA.  Big difference.

Second, that character was a parody of an actual country singer, so the guy you saw might have been him.

Well, one is the American Civil Liberties Union, and one is the University of California at Los Angeles, so you probably wouldn't want to get them confused in real life.

Tell me you hit him.  Please, please, please tell me you hit him.  Or at least corrected his dumbassness?

Today, I saw a cover from a 1992 issue of Firehouse magazine, and one of the headlines was "Brannigan on (something*)".  Of course you all know who that reminded me of ... unless you are Jicannon's classmate.

*I can't remember what the topic of the article was, just that some guy named Brannigan (probably a fire cheif or administrator) had to say about something.

I have this habit of sleeping in a T-shirt and either boxers or sweats, then wearing the outfit as gym clothes the next day. My roommate has picked up on this, and it annoys her. Today, she wrinkled her nose and asked me, "Why are you going outside in those? Aren't they the same clothes you sleep in?"

Apparently, when you try to say, "They can do other things! Why shouldn't they?" and "But I am already in my pajamas," at the same time, it comes out as a garbled mass of unintelligible syllables and hidden satanic messages.

This weekend, I went out of town for some fire training.  The town I was in had a street named Poplar (granted, it's referring to the tree, and it's spelled differently, but shut up).  They also had a street called "Nibler" something (ave, drive, whatever - again the spelling's wrong, but shut up).

Also, another firefighter there was wearing a Skweez the Weasel shirt (a Celtic band, not sure if they are local to me or known all over).  It reminded me of Poly Shore's appearance on Futurama.

You're completely right, Jicannon. 'Twas one of those n00b-mistakes-from-someone-who-really-ought-to-know-better-by-now that crop up from time to time. About a minute after I posted, I realized it would've been better suited to the "Quotes You Always Use" thread. But, you know, (speaking of overused quotes) I bumped it; I can't unbump it. Oh, well. It's a good little thread. People post interesting anecdotes.

I'm feeling you on the Poplar Street, Zoid. I pass its freeway exit every time I go to or from Seattle, and it always makes me smile.

I was watching an episode of 'The Fairly OddParents' yesterday and it was about Timmy releasing Tom Sawyer from his book and his jumping from book to book(Moby Dick, Tarzan, Frankenstein).

I was instantly reminded of 'The Day the Earth Stood Stupid'.

This may be further proof of my nerd-hood...

In the PCRPG Neverwinter Nights there are a couple quest situations looked like ripoffs/homages to Futurama.

In the first expansion pack, the PC (that's player character for non-DnDers) is trying to catch some kind of wind spirit (don't ask) and has to mentally travel through a number of books to catch up with it, a la TDTESS

Another possible connection is in the second expansion, when the PC comes across a handy little item called the Demonic Grappling Hand, and must soon afterwards fight its owner (I wonder if Bards can challenge him to a fiddle/opera contest...)

Alright!  I'm a level 12 Nerdlinger!

Umm, I'm a chick and I have my own Futurama Ringtone AND a pic of Bender on my cell phone screen. (2 out of the 3 ain't bad!)  :laff:
It's kinda funny actually.  I work in a cell phone store and whenever I need to modal my phone, I let the customer take it and have a peek at it's various features.  And then they see a pic of Bender saying "Bite my shiny metal ass".  I only show it to certain people cause I wouldn't want to offend anyone, but it's a great way to get more people exposed to Futurama.

In a recent episode of Century City (Futuristic courtroom drama) they had to represent a baseball player who wasn't allowed in the Major League because of a bionic eye. Cue many comments about how a one-eyed person with poor depth perception couldn't possibly play blernsbaseball.

Watch the first ten minutes of Spiderman 2, specifically Peter Parker as he tries to make a pizza delivery, but fails.  Loser orange/red-haired pizza delivery boy who has lousy luck with relationships and can't get his life straight in early 21st century New York City?

Guess who! (No, not Hermes.)

dont mean to over-post but i just saw this kid outside playing with a large teddy bear in the neighbors yard. the arms and legs were flailing around quite a bit. really reminded my of COTH where the crushinator, sporting a very lovely lime-green thong(image burned into my head), asks bender to dance and then proceeds to toss him around like an unwanted stepchild.

things to do:
- pickup mail
- buy bread and milk
- get a life...

Big boots remind me of Leela. Every time I take out my big platform boots I think "Step your big boot down on the gas pedal!". Also, this song by a band I like called Haujobb where one of the lyrics is "Robots don't sleep".

Today I was watching TV with my dad, and a Mr. Rooter ad came on.  He gave me a really weird look when I sang the Robo Rooter jingle.

Oh, and Futurama Nerd, I have to top you.  Although I'm not a hot Asian chick (I'm not even a chick!), I do have multiple Futurama ring tones - which one I hear depends on who's calling.  And they're all mp3s ... including the Poppler song.  I also have a picture of Fry, Leela, and Bender in a bubble (the one we see in the "Futurama is brought to you by..." openings) on my screen.  You may be a Futurama nerd, but I'm a Futurama nerdier.

... that made sense in my head ...
