THAT's it! Exactly! Zapp is your everyday boss on the job. Doesn't know anything, thinks he's the greatest and makes mistake after mistake. His incompetence is so obvious which makes his selfconfidence  so funny. And he has the perfect sidekick - Kif!
His voice is the perfect parody of being macho. I just love that character! Seeing him always reminds me of William Shatner as Cpt. Kirk, the shining hero.

AND Zapp is neither gay nor bisexual! he's just desperate and obsessed with sex like some of the teenagers here.

Remember: Zapp was attracted to Leela on "War is the h-word", not to a man! He was confused that he could even feel like that for a man. So his hormons clearly saw the wonan in her, which his eyes couldn't see.
That's not a gay persons move!

Yes, he is my favourite character. Connected with Kif he is funnier than the rest of the Futurama-characters together.

Yes he is a milestone in comedy!
