Is it only me OR do channel 4 (UK) have something against Futurama? This week they have been showing Smallville, which why being a good program, fairly uncut. Yesterday, they showed gun violence, Today they showed a person who could make people turn to ash, 2 or 3 days ago they showed Lana Lang (Kristen Kreuk(sp) strip down to her underwear and dive into a pool. This is also REAL violence/sex etc and it is being shown at 10:30am when any kids could be watching, while Futurama, A CARTOON (was/is) shown at 6:30pm and was cut.

Any thoughts?

No no no, they don't show futurama in the mornings. I was just pointing out that they don't bother to cut the stuff in Smallville that would be considered violent at 10:30am.

But when Futurama (Season3) was aired at 6:00pm, they cut it.

smallville will pull in the punters/viewers.

Futurama although being popular too will not win against the "dont need no braincells, lets watch..." smallville community. besides which, smallville always has a "moral to the story", good wins over evil plot line - which more-often than not will override the sex and violence Where-as futurama is plain old well-written humour with obscure references to sex, drugs and violence. Think about it, a robot that smokes and drinks to stay "sober", the occasional words "sex", "ass", "bitch", "crap" etc.

summary: all to do with ratings. as usual im talking b/s so, disregard if you disagree... don't flame me... please...  ;)

As above, but perhaps there's also something to do with the idea of Futurama being an animation, and Smallville being live action (just a thought, I don't know if it's actually true)...

Sure, why not.

I think I would prefer to watch Lana Lang strip down to her lace underwear than watch say... a cartoon lana stripping down (although either is just fine by me).

Hm cutting Futurama? Tut tut channel 4. imagine how bad the cuts would be when it used to be shown in place of R:SE at 7:00am. I never managed to catch any of them, myself.

Where've you all been? www.geocities.com/futurama_cuts/  (it's my site, and I just shamelessly promoted it! So what are you gonna do, eh?)

Actually the Channel 4 cutting was much worse in season 2 (which they showed in 2001) than in season 3 (shown autumn 2002).

There are lots of threads that helped me make the site. Some are:
- One from season 2
- Er, another (bigger) one from season 2
- The season 3 thread

nik, nobody actually said they showed Futurama in the mornings.  Although I remember either last year or the year before they were on at 8:30am during holidays.
