From the Comics Continuum:

"Zapp Brannigan disappears into the jungles of a distant planet, where he is made ruler and worshipped as a god. He sends only on message from the bust - the king needs a one-eyed jungle queen. The Democratic Order of Planets (DOOP) sends a reluctant Leela, Kif Kroker, Fry and Bender up the river into the heart of darkness to save him - but they are not prepared for the unspeakably bloated horror they find there. "

Sounds like they're doing "Apoalypse Now". The horror....

Now THAT would be an episode!!! Why do they do it in a comic?

I'll tell ya why its in a comic, they already did Conrad in the simpsons.  GRRARRRARR THAT DAMNABLE BOOK. Anyways, it was called "Bart of Darkness".  I don't actually recall seeing it, I just know there was a "Heart of Darkness" based episode and one named "Bart of Darkness".  Then again, I've tried hard to rid my existence of all Conrad/Coppola related memories. gag

I really thought the first comic was great, it could of been a really good episode. The second one was pretty funny too, I just hope the series keeps the quality up.

As far as funniness goes, I think it has a long way to go before matching episodes(but I've only read the first issue, maybe it gets funnier). But the story and a lot of the dialogue was very in line with the show; it impressed me a lot in that respect. If the jokes could have been a lot funnier, it definitely would have made a good episode.

But I guess I can't really fault it for not being funny...after all, the show has more than a dozen writers meticulously working on a script, maximizing it's humor potential for several months. The comic is just one writer, two at the most, and with not as much time to refine the script.

I give it a 7 out of 10.
