Futurama, Matt Groening's complaints, and the upcoming S1 R1 DVD was featured in today's USA Today. The article is available on the Internet at http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2003-03-05-futurama_x.htm

Groening slams on Fox for failing to promote the show, ignoring its emmy, and cancelling it before its time. He also gives a massive compliment to Cartoon Network.

Thats good!
Maybe if the Futurama DVD gets enough attention in it's US release then Fox might decide to put Futurama back on...

The only frustrating thing about buying the DVD is that FOX will make money on the deal.  I hate the idea of helping them profit from this show after the way they've treated it and us, the fans.

Having said that, I'll buy it as soon as I can.

The article was good, but it won't be enough to sway FOX - nothing is going to sway FOX at this point.

What Groening really wants to do is blast out an article that unrelentlessly rips the crap out of Fox. What are they gonna' do, write a letter? Something like that would FORCE them to at least give us a formal cancellation.

It's nice to see he appreciates CN. Things have gone a bit quiet from him and DXC on the Futurama front, though.

I got an e-mail from TCFHE (Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment) announcing new DVD releases for March. Surprise, surprise, Futurama isn't on there.

Take a look: http://www.quack-net.com/angrydome/tcfhe.html

Did I miss something?

Does that mean that the commentary is different from the UK commentary? If so I'll have to buy the S1 R1 DVDs too. (I already have the S1 R2 DVDs and the S2 R2 DVDs - I have a DVD-ROM drive with no region-checking.)

Sheesh, so THAT's why I had to wait a month to get the Season 1 DVD set for my brother! All you Yanks and Aussies have been stealing our valuable DVDs! And you don't even pay spleeshing VAT on them! Grrrr.   ;).

No matter, when the S3 set comes out, I'll blockade all major ports to prevent export. Mwahahahahaha! All mine   :D.

EDIT: As for the commentaries:

From the sounds of it, they're the same. The R2 DVDs have the singing
and the actors certainly talk in their character voices sometimes.

No, they're exactly the same.

I think Matt was refering to that one instance on the season 2 DVD, where John and Billy does their rhytm&sound trick while adding the word "Futurama" at various instances, during the opening credits.

On the article: Go Matt! But the next time, please rip FOX a new one, rather than just give them a slap on the wrist. And nice of him to give CN a big kudos, for actually promoting the show.

Wow!
If they have a link on the main page to pre order then they must be expecting some rather large sales of the Futurama DVD.

Hmm, if you buy the DVDs, you're getting them from FOX anyway. And buying the DVDs is good for Futurama, if it's popular, who knows what FOX may do. If it flops, they probably won't bother with the S2,3 and 4 DVDs (in the USA at least).
