I recently got a capture card and need some advice for capturing tv shows, stuff like converting to .rm, best quality for size, that kinda stuff.  Any help would be really great.  Thanks.

Well, firstly, NEVER try to capture a full episode in one go, unless you are 100% confident in it working (ie have tested it before).  In my experience, and with my card, my computer often will crash, or won't save the video correctly if I attempt to record too much at one time.  Instead, you should break it up at each ad break, and if necessary, mix them together later.  I would assume that your TV card should include software to record, as any good one should.

Personally, I don't actually make .rm files, though admittedly that's partially because I believe you need a registered program (ie money) to do it.  However, it is quite possible to get freeware that can make .mpg files, or even VCDs (which are basically MPEGs anyway).

Also, capture cards can cost anything, but I got a cheap (but quite capable) one for only $99AUS!!  (at the moment only about $57US)

Totally agree with plasma
It also depends on the card a bit which can cause problems also depending on the card  certain system settings have to be right
