"The Quest for Cards" is the worst subtitle I think I've ever heard. Worse than "Dawn of Justice", worse than "Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire" and worse than "Electric Boogaloo".

But it's nice to see that not only Futurama, but also King of the Hill still have some degree of life left in them. Can't help but notice the lack of The Simpsons, though. I wish this was going to be a "real" game instead of some more app nonsense.

If it's done by people who are passionate about the show and if there's some humour involved, then what the hell?  It'll be what it'll be.  Maybe we'll like it.  Maybe not.  If nothing else, it'll be an interesting distraction :)

So, there was an article on The AV Club covering a live action fan-made Futurama film project, which is... unsettling, to say the least.

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned here, but here's the link anyway:

So, what's the verdict? I find Hermes to be the funniest thing in the trailer. The amount of effort that's gone into it is really great, though.

My jaw basically dropped on the floor when I saw those amateurs transfer the Futurama characters into RL. In terms of art this looks extremely impressive.

I acutally like those versions: Leela might look cute as a cartoon, but was written as if her face was ultra-creepy. The IRL version steps into the uncanny valley really well.

Regarding the acting, the one-liners do not allow too much judgement. Though they seem to be doing all right by the first look.

For what it's worth, I saw a post on FB the other day which indicated the general age of the only Peeler active anywhere who I thought might be a few years older than me.  But nope, Gaschief is a young punk by comparison.

I liked it. I'll watch it when it gets released.  If it's not amazing, it's at least a huge Futurama fan project and I can enjoy the costumes, CGI, and jokes these people have created as a labor of love.

Agreed, absolutely.  Even if it falls flat, they deserve kudos and respect for the inspiration and following through with it.

Anyone know whether they have a funding site set up?  I'll bet it cost them more than pocket change.

Fan-o-Rama looks exciting. I'm most interested in all the effects and how they come off on-screen... I hardly even care about the actual quality, I'm most impressed by how much time and effort appears to have gone into it.

And, finally... here it is! :)

Watching the trailer and the behind-the-scenes clip made me think that I'd be bothered by The Eye, as there's no way to accurately transform the drawn Leela to a natural looking live action character.  But I was wrong: it only took me a minute or so to get used to it.

Also, the video is a half hour long, but the actual episode is closer to 15 minutes.

Great film! It surpassed the expectations I had from the trailer quite a bit. :D

I was disappointed that the actual sequence containing the story was only about 15 minutes long because I was really starting to enjoy it. They really did a great job on transforming the Futurama characters into real-life versions. Also all the efforts taken in order to create the filming sets and some of these futuristic gimmicks are quite astonishing. All those details in the background are going to require some deciphering as there are quite few posters with alien language.
Somehow, this film had kind of the same vibe to it as some of the season 1 episodes do. Had it been completed to fill about 21 minutes, the story could've passed as a 'real' episode. It definitely has more 'Classic Futurama' potential than some of the new run's episodes.

Wow, I had no idea it had been released. Thanks for posting, Tachyon! :)

Really, really impressed by it. I thought it would be too goofy to work but it actually did capture the Futurama feel quite well. Amazing work with the sets and the costumes, and the voices of some of the characters are absolutely spot-on. Hermes stole the show!

My only major complaint is that they made Leela a little too harsh/miserable, but otherwise, they nailed it. I only wish we got more.

There was a short Q&A with the cast & DXC after the live episode reading, here are the key points that I compiled:

Chris Hardwick says the show is "legitimately unkillable", prompting DXC to tell him to not be optimistic, because: "Every time I truly give up hope, that's when the show comes back."

When asked why the show is still so popular, DXC says it's because of the "hardcore fans who keep watching" & that the show doesn't really age much because it's set in the future.

Chris Hardwick, George Takei, Stephen Hawking, Bill Nye & Neil deGrasse Tyson all appear in the game as themselves.

"This is the problem with Futurama fans, they already know everything."

Phil LaMarr says: "The biggest fandoms are sci-fi and animation, Futurama is like the nexus."

Eric Kaplan just earned his PhD a couple weeks ago.

There is a difficult alien language side-puzzle in the game.

John DiMaggio does a fantastic Donald Trump voice.

The cast are asked to name their favourite minor character:
John: Roberto
Lauren: Roberto & Scruffy
Maurice: Hattie
Phil: Judge Whitey
Tress: Donbot
Dave: Al Gore
Billy: Enos

The cast & crew will be involved with the game for the foreseeable future.

So what could it be?

The obvious answer is just continuing updates for Worlds of Tomorrow but that's so obvious that I expect everyone would just take it for granted. I can't imagine David X. Cohen wouldn't just say something like "We'll continue to make Futurama content through the app for a while" if that's what he was talking about. Not to mention that I think that'd probably count as low expectations rather than moderate to say we already have the app.

He's ruled out new episodes or movies (which presumably includes a proper, theatrical movie) - plus that'd surely be high expectations rather than moderate.

Maybe the comic book is coming back? I doubt it.

Maybe they're making another "real" Futurama video game? To be honest, I'd say that'd be worthy of high expectations rather than moderate, but he might not feel the same way.

Maybe they're working on some Futurama audio-plays like Chris Hardwick was talking about trying to throw together on his podcast when Billy West was on it, a while ago. That would definitely qualify for "moderate" but it still seems pretty out there.

Maybe he's talking about some more Futurama-themed live events like the ones he's been throwing lately... but that'd presumably be low rather than moderate too.

Maybe they're going to make another Simpsons / Futurama crossover episode... but I can't see that happening either - and I think he'd go with high expectations for that, publicly, too.

Maybe... maybe... it's some sort of Futurama spin-off? Matt Groening is developing a new show for Netflix, after all. I really doubt it, though. I expect Matt's new show is something new entirely. If I was putting money on it, I'd go with it being something set in the music industry based on things he's said in the past.

So... I'm completely stumped. Any ideas?

I'd love a new console video game, and that's what I'll keep my fingers crossed for--but I suppose it's also possible that the show could be returning in the form of, like, a graphic novel or comic book produced by some of the show's actual writers and artists. Those are moderately exciting things for the casual viewers to whom DXC is presumably speaking (I don't actually know who the audience for a Reddit AMA is; I'm passionate about a lot of pop culture stuff, but I've never felt compelled to participate in one), and incredibly exciting things for the more dedicated fan-base.

And yeah, it could be any of the other stuff you mentioned--reunions and podcasts and radio plays and such--but, like you say, that doesn't seem exciting enough to warrant an ominous announcement. Hell, I'm a super-fan and all, but none of those things strike me as remotely interesting; I can't imagine a casual viewer would care at all about them. Plus, there would be no reason I could think of for such a veil of secrecy if the (non-)news were so benign.

Ooh! What about a VR experience?

That's one of the trendy things for a TV show to do, now. It's sort of a stand-alone, one-off project and it's basically more Futurama content, but certainly isn't enough for high-expectations if you're wanting a full-blown set of new episodes or movies.
