Well, they recently introduced the "Butterfly Derby". Traditional sports haven't appeared in a while though.

1 - What?

2 - If you're asking why sports aren't that big of a deal in Futurama, I imagine it's because the target audience would get tired of sports being brought up all the time. We're more interested in things like time travel and sciencey stuff.

Plus, Sportsbot 5000 cancelled all sports during TBWABB.

I think that only applied during the reign of Yivo... :p

Plus, I don't think Sportsbot 5000 has much say in if sports can be played or not. :laff:

"Real Steel" comes to mind regarding fusion of Sci Fi and sports:)

Apart from that, I guess most sports in Futurama serve as a throwaway gag,
parodoying specific sports tropes on a "one time base". E.g. we experienced Blernsball taking the Baseball cliche of having too many strange rules to an extreme. But -after seeing that joke once- there is no need to retell it again.

That said, the lower budget will also affect (especially TEAM) sport scenes. I would e.g. really love to see a Futurama version of "CyberBall" (American Football with Robots, and therefore going for extreme violence and demolition). Yet, those mass scenes are rather costly.

@TMC

I would love to see that Cyberball you were talking about...
That's if they come back and bring new episodes..

by comeback, I mean after this season.
Also, TheMadCapper, I never stated I wanted to see sports be mentioned all the time. I was thinking just once.

Unless I change my user name to TMC (and right now, I do not have any plans to do so), you did adress the wrong guy ;)

Boring? Baseball wasn't - hmm, so they finally jazzed it up?

Anyways, I think TMC hit the nail on the head. I always enjoy sports on Futurama, but they're smart to not overdo it.

I enjoy sports even if it's remade in every way.
But true, I don't want them to overdo it.
I mean, one episode centered around a sport is enough.
