I would love nothing more than for the next two episodes to be phenomenal and win me over to season 7.

"Meanwhile" has a pretty solid chance of doing that given what little I know of the plot and Ken Keeler's involvement.

And even if it doesn't, I'm still glad that they brought the show back - definitely.

As for Breaking Bad, I'm already struggling with that. I recently started watching Dexter and whilst it's enjoyable for the most part, it just feels like a Big Mac compared to the incredible fillet steak that is Breaking Bad. I fear that Breaking Bad might have "ruined me" for other TV drama. Still, I haven't gotten round to The Wire or The Sopranos yet.

I think there's a world of difference between seasons 6 and 7, honestly.

You know, I've been thinking about this a lot recently, and though I firmly believe season seven has been consistently good, I ultimately think season six is better. And you've pretty much nailed the reason why, cyber_turnip: while season six was ultimately more uneven (it contains "Proposition Infinity," "Ghost in the Machines," and "The Silence of the Clamps"--three of my all-time least-favorite episodes of the series), it was still capable of classic-level greatness (6A alone has three of my top-25 episodes: "Lethal Inspection," "The Late Philip J. Fry," and "The Prisoner of Benda"). The lows were pretty damn low--what with the over-reliance on contemporary pop culture references, the inconsistent writing of Fry and Leela's relationship, the glut of Fry/Bender stories, and some downright lame jokes (oh, clownitis, how I loathe thee)--but the highs were so freaking high.

Season seven, meanwhile, has a number of very, very good episodes that would possibly crack my top 50 ("Decision 3012," "The Thief of Baghead," "The Inhuman Torch," "Leela and the Genestalk," "Murder on the Planet Express")--but less than a handful of episodes I would truly consider classics ("A Farewell to Arms," "Fun on a Bun," "Fry and Leela's Big Fling," and "Game of Tones"). It also improved quite a bit on the flaws of season six, what with the tighter Fry/Leela writing, the return to trio-based episodes, and fewer cringe-worthy pop culture references. While it is true that I have been far less disappointed on a week-by-week basis with season seven than I was with season six, I am also far less excited for each new season seven episode than I was for each new season six episode. And I think this is because, unlike in the first two half-seasons, I no longer expect greatness from Futurama; instead, I simply hope for, well, competence and adequacy. And, while there have been no episodes from season seven that I would banish to my Worst Episodes Ever list, there have been fewer than five episodes that I would count among the Best Episodes Ever.

I guess what I'm saying is that, well, I'm not sad to see Futurama go. And I don't think it's because I've outgrown the show or anything; rather, I think it's because the writers did not reward my devotion to their show in the same way they did in the original run. Oh, there were many valiant efforts, and a few of them did worm their way into my heart (and my top-25 list)--but, overall, the show's just not as good as it used to be. Moreover, I can see the possibility that, were it to continue, it would slip into unwatchability at an alarming rate. So I'm happy that the show will be done with in two weeks; seasons six and seven were not perfect, and at times they were outright painful, but I'm glad we have them. I'm also glad the show will be exiting on a more or less good note, as opposed to overstaying its welcome and devolving into a Simpsons-esque crap-fest.

I gotta agree with Gorky AND Cyber-Turnip on this one.

The returning seasons definitely weren't the strongest of seasons. And I'd have to agree with Season 6 being better than Season 7 Quality-wise, as Cyber-T said. I mean the fact that we didn't have alot of instant classics or anything kind of made this season not keep me as-interested as I was during Season 6. Plus, the plots have slowly been getting less and less interesting/good as well. It kind of reminded me of Season 2, since that Season only had about 3 or 4 classic eps, and the rest were consistently good.

Watching The First Four Seasons are still my most fondest memories of the show. I can still remember laughing up a storm when I first watched "The Cyber-House Rules", and "I Second that Emotion".

The new eps are a fine and worthy comeback for the show. We got plenty of Classic Episodes such as LI, TLPJF, TPOB, MD, CW, Reincarnation, FoaB, TIT, GOT, and MotPE from it as well. As well as some puke-a-tronic episodes like "Yo Leela Leela, Lrrendicible whatever-its-called, All the Presidents Heads, Naturama, And T.

But as it went on, the creative charm that made me love the show has slowly been slipping away. Especially in Season 7. While the eps are consistently good, I feel like something has been missing from the episodes, that I haven't seen since Season 6. And normally, with the last eps of a Season, they try and pick things up. I'd say Season 7 has been doing really good with that with these last 2 eps. And it certainly has been rewarding my devotion to the show.

The past two seasons are on par with how it used to be, in my opinion. I'm not saying that it's on-par with Season 4 standards, but with the show's overall standards. The way they've been keeping a nice handful of episodes good/great in Season 6, and making them consistently good in Season 7, is very Futurama-like. So I wouldn't stoop to as low as to say it's by any means worse. But the quality did take a little dip over the years. And affected how I view some of the new episodes. I mean some are extremely forgettable (Thief of Baghead, anyone?), and others may be extremely flawed with plotholes. But they did a very good job at keeping them at a nice enjoyable, watchable level in a very nice Futurama-fashion.

So I would also agree that right now is a good time for the show to end. It's definitely had the run it deserves. Only thing missing is a theatrical movie to wrap things up.

Although I think that if we were to go on for a 8th Season, the show would probably be at the tipping point, where the writers are cornered to use out all of the last, good ideas they had saved for the show. And then go to the Unwatchable, Zombie Zone the following season(s). And I'd hate to see that happen. It'd almost be disheartening, to see my favorite show turn into that.  :(

I'm still not sure how I'd rank season 7 with 6.

I feel like 7 has had far fewer misses, but until recently it's also had very few extreme hits. Generally, when I compare seasons I ignore the filler and go straight to the great and the crap (So that'd be episodes rated 9 or higher and episodes rated 5 or lower).

6A has TLPJF, TPOB, LI and Rebirth; but also has TFHS, IAGDL, AOTKA and PI.

6B has Reincarnation, LAO and CW; but also has Neutopia, YLL, ATPH and TTOTZ. (Probably the most mixed season yet).

7A has FOAB and 31CF; but also has TBJE and NDW.

7B has GOT, MOTPE and LATGS; but also has SMFP, 40PLB and TTT.

I was just about ready to call 7B the weakest season yet, but these past few episodes have been brilliant. The latter half of 7B has been a huge improvement, and I suspect a lot of people will agree. I'd probably put it over 6B.

Here's my current ranking for Season 7:

1. Murder on the Planet Express
2. Fry and Leela's Big Fling
3. Game of Tones
4. Fun on a Bun
5. Assie Come Home
6. Leela and the Genestalk
7. Viva Mars Vegas
8. Zapp Dingbat
9. A Farewell to Arms
10. Saturday Morning Fun Pit
11. 31st Century Fox
12. The Inhuman Torch
13. The Bots and the Bees
14. Calculon 2.0
15. The Six Million Dollar Mon
16. Free Will Hunting
17. 2-D Blacktop
18. Naturama
19. Decision 3012
20. Near-Death Wish
21. The Thief of Baghead
22. T.:The Terrestrial
23. The Butterjunk Effect
24. 40% Leadbelly

In my opinion, 7A is the weakest season. While aside from TBJE, NDW, and TToB, it had no "bad" episodes, it also didn't have any series' favorites of mine either. Even Fun on a Bun, which is my top pick out of 7A, can't compete with the highs of any other season. I was feeling the same way about 7B, with the exception of FALBF, but the past couple episodes have actually been some of favorites out of the entire series, especially MotPE, so I have very high hopes for the last two episodes now.

Some of these lists are kind of confounding to me. Especially when someone like Turnip (not to single just him out) lists as his 15th favorite episode of the last four years (the totals of the last two seasons), out of 50 episodes, one that he just recently gave a 5/10 and a rather harsh review to. If the show is such a chore to watch.....why keep watching it? I'm serious. 52 episodes is a lot to watch of a show a lot of people here seem to only really occasionally enjoy. Me personally, I'd bail after 13 if I was finding myself rating even the close-to-top episodes that poorly, and I've bailed on shows much more quickly than that in the past.

My personal, general feeling is that seasons 6 and 7 are somewhat better than seasons 1 and 2, and not as good as 3 and 4 (5 is hard to stack up against them, but it's probably about the same quality as 6 and 7, all in all). The funny thing about this is that I find every season to be fairly consistent except for seasons 3 and 4...they're my favorites because I feel they have the majority of the show's best episodes, but they also have most of the worst ones. If anything, 6 and 7 are far more consistent than the seasons that would give us an all-time classic and then a week later spew out some piece of shit (or just a supremely mediocre episode) like Three Hundred Big Boys or A Pharaoh to Remember. I think the majority of my bottom ten list would probably be from season 3...and that's maybe my favorite season! Whereas I really think seasons 6 and 7 are way more consistent, but they just knock it out of the park less often, with the majority of the episodes being pretty "average." It's funny how that works.

As far as season 7 goes, I'm far too lazy to rank, but to me these have all been highlights:

A Farewell to Arms (one of my very favorite episodes)
The Six-Million Dollar Mon
Fun on a Bun
Game of Tones
Assie Come Home
Murder on the Planet Express
Near-Death Wish
Fry and Leela's Big Fling

And there's a decent share of "secondary classics" too, like Freewill Hunting, The Bots and the Bees, etc.

I think only a couple of the episodes I listed would necessarily crack my top 15 or 20....but, that list is pretty much filled with almost nothing but season 3 and 4 episodes. Seasons 1 and 2 don't have that many entries either, and I still love those. It's all relative. I'm okay with watching Futurama finally go off into the sunset, but it's still been one of my very favorite shows to watch the last few years, and that's considering that there have been a ton of great shows on the air within that time.

I gave it a 5/10 by Futurama's standards. I like to rate Futurama episodes on a scale where the worst episode gets 1/10 and the best episode gets 10/10.

I also gave it an 8/10 by overall TV standards. If I rated every episode of the show by overall TV standards, nothing would ever get lower than a 6/10 (and that'd be used very rarely; plus there'd be little to distinguish the real all-time classic episodes of the show from the episodes that are simply brilliant, but not as brilliant as others. Also, almost every episode would get 8/10.

You put Neutopa as #50?! Your Opinion is bad and you should Feel bad.

Anyway, so far season 7 has been one of my favorite seasons ever. Sure, a few aren't great (at least to me), such as Saturdgay Mourning Crap Fit and Free Willie Hunting, but I feel like it had way more classics, including A Farewell to Arms and Murder on the Planet Express, than steaming-loads-of-sethmcfarlane-feces.

I'll officially rank them as soon as Meanwhile airs, so it covers every single episode, instead of just most.

Plus, Neutopia was pretty damn bad. It was like an episode of The Simpsons, and is one of those episodes from Season 6B I didn't like (Ex: Yo Leela Leela, All The Presidents Heads as well. But that's it!).

I don't mind "Neutopia", "All the Presidents' Heads" or "Yo Leela Leela". I think the main reason is that I still find them relatively funny, so I more or less overlook their weak plotting, whereas the jokes have felt very thin in season 7 - or at least, the good jokes have.

Humor-wise, I don't mind Neutopia, it actually has some pretty okay/funny jokes. But plot-wise It's just awful.

All The Presidents Heads had its moments.

Yo Leela Leela, was not funny. Not at all in my opinion, I never laughed once watching it. And to top it all off, the story was terrible.

Season 7, I agree does have some issues with the jokes on some episodes. There were other episodes that made me laugh quite alot, and keep a grin on my face the whole time (Vivas Mars Vegas, Fun on a Bun, Murder on the Planet Express do it big time). The laughing quality has dropped a bit in Season 7. But I still get a good laugh or two out of each episode. It doesn't always have to be funny. As long as there's a good story to back it up, then I'm fine with the ep.

I'll never understand the extreme level of hate that "Yo Leela Leela" gets. It was nothing special, but I really didn't find it bad.

Abner Doubledeal was the funniest he's ever been (not a huge achievement, but still - he was great in that episode) and I thought the plot was reasonably amusing and pulled enough science fiction into the whole thing to justify itself.

I agree. If one can overlook the initial problems with the story, it's actually a pretty funny episode (albeit some terrible gags and equally terrible ending). Leela's first story to the kids, Popular Slut Club and the other TV shows, the song about what not to lick, and the Humplings' 'curse words' song being among the highlights.

I also think the twist with Rumbledy-Hump being a real planet, with real aliens was a pretty neat twist.

For me, by far the best 4 episodes since the show went to CC are:

The Late Philip J Fry, The Prisoner Of Benda, Near-Death Wish, and Assie Come Home.

These 4 episodes are some of my all-time favourites the show has ever done. Which is interesting because TLPJF and TPOB are widely regarded as some of the best, whilst NDW and ACH seem to be my guilty pleasures.

A Clockwork Origin probably takes my number 5 spot, which I also loved. But the previously mentioned 4 episodes are by far the best for me.

Regarding what is better out of season 6 and season 7... Without the last 2 episodes having aired yet, I would say season 7 is better. As I find it more consistent. And tbh, I genuinely wasn't dissapointed in anything from 7A.

Season 7 is definitely the better of the two, at least to me.
Like you said, it's noticably more consistent than Season 6, as even the lesser episodes were considered good by some. Season Six's stinkers were considered crap by pretty much everyone, such as Xmas Craptacular.
I have alot of all time favorites from season 7, too, such as A Farewell to Arms and Murder on the Planet Express.
I'd go as far to say that season 7 is my favorite Futurama season, mostly because it is consistently Funny and Sci-Fi, without ever overdoing it.

My 7B rankings:

1. Fry and Leela's Big Fling - 10/10
2. Game of Tones - 9/10
3. Stench and Stenchibility - 9/10
4. The Inhuman Torch - 9/10

6. Meanwhile - 8/10
7. Leela and the Genestalk - 8/10
8. Forty Percent Leadbelly - 7/10

11. Calculon 2.0 - 7/10
12. T: The Terrestrial - 7/10
13. 2-D Blacktop - 6/10

All in all, this was not a bad way for the series to go out. There were a few more truly noteworthy episodes in 7B than in 7A, and there were no truly horrendous episodes...so, yeah. I was pleased.

Really Good
1 - Fry and Leela's Big Fling
2 - Meanwhile
3 - Stench and Stenchibility
4 - Murder on the Planet Express

Not Great But Not Awful
5 - Game of Tones
6 - Calculon 2.0
7 - The Inhuman Torch

Why Did They Bother?
8 - Assie Come Home
9 - Forty Percent Leadbelly
10 - Leela and the Genestalk
11 - Saturday Morning Fun Pit
12 - T: The Terrestrial
13 - 2-D Blacktop

All in all, it wasn't a disastrous season. F&LBF and Meanwhile are definitely two of the top episodes from the entire run, with S&S and MOTPE being two of the better offerings from the new run.

If the original run of Futurama was an 8/10 overall, the new run is a 6 altogether, and Season 7 is a 7. The show's entire run is likewise a 7/10 for me, from the pilot to the finale. On this scale, episodes like TLOTF, RTEW, and TLPJF are clear 11/10 offerings.

The finale was truly my favorite episode of the CC run.

The 'Fun Pit' was truly the worst episode of all time.

What an uneven season, ghee whizz.

Heh, 6A contains both my favorite episode of the new run ("The Late Philip J. Fry") and my least favorite episode of the series ("Proposition Infinity"), so your experience with 7B isn't so odd to me.

It was really uneven. I think my favorite one of the entire season is still going to be Game of Tones, but the three that followed it really do rank well with it. It is hard to pick...

As for worst episode, I can't put Fun Pit in there. It's still Yo Leela Leela for me.

Neutopia would have been a lot better if they had dialed back the harshness of the gender stereotyping, IMO.
