Howdy:)
I used Peelified's search engine, and found one oddity:

There seems to be no thread in this forum dealing on the subject about the similarities between "Space Angel" and "Futurama". And I just feel a Futurama Fan forum needs at least one thread to deal with this subject ;)

Yeah, there definitely appears to be similarities in the overall structure. 3 main characters, boss-man at homebase, one-eyed captain etc. The ships look very similar too, but I'd say the PlanEx ship is a throwback to all fictional ship designs from that time...which all look like they were inspired by the V2. But The PlanEX ship is still one of the best. The Matt Groening over-bite, that pukey-green colour. Yup.

Hey, one thing that article missed. Taurus was a bit of a heavy fella. Possibly an over-undulger. And we all know how far Bender can go we he's all human-y.

Amusing, but that cartoon looks like it was really just borrowing a lot of sci-fi tropes that were already big at that time. Futurama is a call-back to a lot of classic 40s, 50s, 60s sci-fi in general, and that cartoon would have almost certainly been inspired by a lot of the same stuff. It's not coincidence in the traditional sense, but it definitely is in that I don't think that particular show was likely a major influence on Futurama by itself.

Great find. I just saw an episode on youtube. It's so corny that it's great. It looks as if Taurus is Scotty before Scotty was on Trek.

I'm old enough to remember this show being on when I was a kid.  But even as a kid, I recognized it as being so bad as to be hysterically funny.  This show and Clutch Cargo (and his pals Spinner and Paddlefoot) used that same type of animation.  If you could call it that.  The only thing that moved were the mouths.

They have very red lips... that's honestly the first thought that came to my head ><

Huh, more proof that Leela's the man in the F/L relationship xD But seriously, that's some good parallels between the shows, and while this is possible, when watching the first episode I felt they were channeling a bunch of sci-fi stuff. Perhaps this was included, I'm not sure.
