And for the record, this and tip of aoidberg are the only two that stick out in season 7 as being completely lousy.

First of all, it's 'The Tip of the Zoidberg', not 'tip of aoidberg', and second, TTOTZ is from 6B, not 7A.

You're a auffoon.

 There sure are a lot of nitpicking little brats on PEEL nowadays.

Zoidberg kept Fry's head alive with quick surgery, and grafted it to Amy. This is not quite beyond the realms of possibility, even today.

...now I've read everything!

That quote wasn't from me.

Am I the only one who didn't like the monster mash parody? :(

I didn't much care for it either, mostly because they already used that song in The Simpsons and that song in general has been overused in the TV industry. Let's try to stay creative here people and make up your own songs like How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back - Love that song.

As much as you all are jumping on flesheatingbull, as I stated in my initial reaction post, I don't see why episodes need to have an agenda, or at least every other episode. If you go back to classic Futurama, they were easy, fun to watch, and smart nerdy comedy. Now it's just become The Simpsons in Space.

I have never been a fan of Hermes or Hermes episodes, but.... this episode was excellent! Yeah sure, the plot was a bit cartoony, but ya know, I really enjoyed it, and isn't that all that matters in the end?

I enjoyed the character development with Zoidberg and Hermes. (Although it would have been nice if Hermes warmed to Zoidberg a bit more at the end). I admit that the roberto thing was VERY predictable (I just knew it was his grave they were digging up). But overall, this episode highly exceeded my expectations, and has gone from my least anticipated episode to one of my favourites of the season.

I still think this season has been great so far - not a single bad episode IMO. They've all been good for me (except butterjunk which was not as strong but still ok)

It's called being a nerd. And if you want nitpicking, go to tnuk.

"Aoidberg" was obviously a typo. Z is next to the A key. Your correction served no point. It wasn't helping somebody; nobody learned anything. It was nitpicky and immature. Just my opinion--not trying to get on your case.

That quote wasn't from me.

Whoops. Couldn't remember who said it, so I scrolled up and quickly scanned the thread and thought I saw your name. My previous post has been corrected.

At first I didn't either, mostly because it bugged me as to where the second voice was coming from.  Once they made it clear it was Zoidberg doing his own harmony (a nice allusion to Billy West's abilities) and that the other characters were annoyed with him, I warmed up to it.  Having Fry tell everyone to lighten up helped too. :)

Now it's just become The Simpsons in Space.
I don't agree, but supposing I did for sake of argument, I think it's interesting that 'The Simpsons in Space' is exactly what Fox expected Futurama to be before it was pitched.

I didn't forget the line from Taste of Freedom (though I didn't remember the exact phrasing as it's been a few years since I've seen it), but it always seemed pretty obvious to me that even if it was technically acknowledging his parents' death, it was really just a play on something that Jewish parents already stereotypically say to their kids all the time. Perhaps being from a Jewish family (on my mother's side) plays into that.

I loved the Monster Mash thing. It wasn't really supposed to be original per se, that was actually sort of the point I think. It's Zoidberg, he's not really creative or funny, and part of the joke of the episode is that even his lame jokes as a ventriloquist go over really well even though they've always hated him and his attempts at jokes before (and only Amy complains during the song). Even in the case of the song mentioned from "How Hermes Requisitioned..." he bursts into a pretty lame, unoriginal attempt at a song right afterwards and it goes over poorly. It's kind of loveable and endearing that it would actually go over okay here.

And complaining that The Simpsons used it before? Man, watch the South Park "Simpsons Already Did It" episode for everything that needs to be said about that. They used it in an episode from 19 years ago. Not a big deal if a different series wants to use it sometime past the point when Bill Clinton had just been elected president.

Zoidberg apparently had alive parents even though they should have died breeding...
Zoidberg's parents are not alive. The one time he's been shown as a child with a family member, she made reference to the fact that his parents are dead. Go and actually watch the show. Maybe then you'll learn what you're talking about.
As I recall (and I've seen that episode many times), they don't reference that. It is implied that it's his mother who doesn't want him to be a doctor, comedian, etc.

So what you're saying is that you knew what you were saying was misleading if not wrong, but decided to throw it out there anyway. Nice. Good job. So you're acknowledging that you've grossly taken everything you were referring to out of context? Excellent. That's just super.

Since it's been said a couple of times that people would rather discuss this episode than "Futurama isn't as good as it used to be" in this thread, I'll respond to your long post earlier in a more appropriate thread when I get a chance. Expect red dancing text.

It's not even my primary example. The others are pretty obvious continuity problems that the writers chose to either ignore or make on purpose. And none of them are any more or less important than the ones being griped about here (and I remember tons of griping about them back in the early 2000s!). I'm just saying people need to get a grip and remember what show they're actually watching. They might enjoy it more.

Not that I don't have problems with episodes sometimes, but they're usually based on character motivation, story structure, etc. Things that are more universal in television. Complaining about continuity or scientific logic extensively is actually missing the point of this series.

And this episode was fucking great.

If they ever make another video game, I want Mecha Hermes to be a playable character.

(Incidentally, we do need another Futurama video game. Get it on, show's producers!)

Agreed. If they ever do make another game, they should do chapters, and have up to 7 chapters. Each chapter focuses on one of the 3 main-duo and then maybe one or two chapters can focus on Hermes and other characters, and we could play as mecha-hermes as like a bonus or DLC or something! That would be sweet! It would also be cool if the game had kind of a free-roam mode (kind of like The Simpsons Hit and Run, but BETTER since this is Futurama!).

I've always thought a Simpsons Hit and Run style game for futurama would be awesome. Have Fry, Leela and Bender and maybe one more character (Zoidberg?) be the only playable characters through 9 or so levels, and have the other members of the crew serve as companions in certain levels.

we're getting wayyyy off topic here...

The first time I watched this ep, I sided more with the "This plot doesn't make sense!1!!!" people, even thought I still enjoyed it. Now that I've seen it a few times, it actually seems extremely well constructed. There were two things specifically that convinced me: how Zoidberg mentioned he tried to eat Hermes' body parts but they were too spicy, and how Roberto was obsessed with LaBarbara's skin during the mugging scene. However implausible the ending was, the episode sets it up well, and legitimizes Roberto eating Hermes' skin and subsequent melting from it. In the end, I think this is one of those episodes that I will enjoy watching reruns of.

And Roberto's beating his new face into matching the old one was pretty cool.

Or rather, the video game probably didn't have the budget to make it worth their time to hire them.

I've never understood it, either. She's not bad but she's never struck me as anything more than a functional character and it's not even like the novelty of it being a guest star earns any points for her, because she just sounds like Tress MacNielle.
