Ew, Mrs Mellonger. She'd make a great villain. Anyway...

I'm actually really excited for the next episode, although I'm not sure if it's only because it's of the fact it's a new episode. But seeing as Leela is involved a lot in it
I'm both excited and nervous.

She would, wouldn't she?  Old bitch.

Ah, a topical Leela episode.  Those always work out well.

And, really, it's not like the writers had a whole lot they could do with Fry in the original run; the first two seasons were able to play with the idea that the Future is Weird and Fry Must Adjust to It--but seasons three and four were already shifting the focus of their Fry episodes to being about either his past and his family, or his courting of Leela. So the fact that most Fry episodes of the new run have fallen into one of those two categories shouldn't be surprising.

That said, though, the last two seasons of the original run also introduced the idea of Fry being, like, the Savior of the Universe, which provided fodder for a couple of awesome episodes (and was toyed with again in "Bender's Big Score" and "Into the Wild Green Yonder"). The writers really ought to pick up that thread again, if they're hurting for Fry-centric stories.

Funny you mentioned Homer, because I was thinking of him :)
Though the average guy, they managed to come up with enough Homer Plots, so a Homer-type Solo career could also be suitable for Fry.

Well...I just would not like an episode list, based on the scheme
- Leela Plot
- Bender Plot
- Leela Plot
- Bender Plot
- Fry/Leela plot, Fry sacrifices something for Leela
- Leela Plot
- Bender Plot
- Secondary Char plot.
etc...

Because by now, season 7 looks like that:

BaB: Bender Plot
AftA: Fry/Leela plot
D3012 Leela Plot
TToB: Bender Plot
ZD : Leela Plot
TBE: Leela Plot
TSMDM: Hermes Plot
FoaB: Fry/Leela plot

Also, the constant "making a sacrifice for Leela" sooner or later will come off as "the more valuable human being, whose well being and the necessary sacrifices are the only reason allowing the inferior one to exist (plotwise).
(Deliberate exaggeration, of course;) When looking at my post at second time, especially those ironically exagerrated ones look much angrier than I really meant it;) )

About the saviour (of the universe or something else) thing:
They could certainly pick that one up again. I already stated before: Fry's lack of abilities FORCED the writers to come up with a new twist to a situation. E.g. "IiMF" features the typical hostage rescue situation, but in a really "crazy" (pun intended ;) ) manner.
Also, his "Savior of the Universe" roles might have been based on his lack of a Delta Brainwave. But they shared another basic trait: Something had to be done, and Fry was the only one who was available to do it. Taking other chars out of the game plotwise in such an episode would not be too hard. Based on the premise: Fry might be extremely lazy, but realized certain things have to be done. And -unfortunately- there is no one else there to do them for him, so this necessity gives him the kick in the pants he needs.

I'd love to see another 'Brain' episode and rather be 'brain-spawn' they can be 'brain-respawned' and be stronger than before and he has to defeat them in a different way.
There should be a Fry/Leela element to it, as there has been in the other brain eps - perhaps the PE crew is kidnapped in their brain affected state and Fry has to do everything the entire crew would normally do in an episode... man, I feel a fanfic idea coming on... IDEA OVERLOAD

I'm not sure I want to see the Brainspawn again as they seem to be defeated for all time, as of TWoF.  On the other hand, the Brainspawn are the whole reason Fry is considered "The Chosen One", and we still haven't been shown what Leela's status as the "Other" is exactly.

Assignment X interview with Maurice LaMarche.

Interesting stuff:

Quote from: Maurice LaMarche
We have a very nice return of Lrrr from Omicron Persei 8. We’ve explored his mid-life crisis, and now we’re going to look at his relationship with his teenage son. It’s a rich episode for me.

Quote from: Maurice LaMarche
We get to do a lot of one off characters on the show and I’m thrilled that we’ll see the return of The Porno Dealing Alien from the “Spanish Fry” episode. He comes back and he’s a lot of fun.

Quote from: Maurice LaMarche
In our season finale, which will air next year, I play a washed up superhero who runs a jewelry store. His name is Ultra Guy. Other than that, I don’t know what quite happens. I’m saving it for myself.

Okay, this leaves the episodes:

TBaB: Bender Plot
AFtA: Fry/Leela Plot
D3012: Leela/Bender Plot
TToB: Bender Plot
ZD: Leela Plot
TBE: Leela/Amy Plot
TSMDM: Hermes Plot
FoB: Fry/Leela plot
FwH: Bender Plot
NdW: Farnsworth Plot
31CF: Bender Plot
VMW: ?

So, I really seems only Leela and Bender are the two main characters any more.
Fry de facto reduced to a supporting character, who may only carry a plot when Leela is involved (VMV still left aside).
I cannot say I like this development in season 7A.
And in season 7B, also only Leela and Bender plots are known so far.

In fairness Inquisitor Hein, Fry had a good handful of episodes in the last season.

Concerning Farnsies' parents, I'd like it very much if their appearance was really exaggerated with wrinkles and age spots, as if they're barely-functioning human beings. After all, Farnsworth isn't even legally a mammal!

Fry's always had a good amount of episodes - but the ep feels strange when there's only little of him or he's part of subplot [wasn't a huge fan of D3012, cause he wasn't really doing anything ><]

Do you know what they should do? They should make... a delivery!

I don't think it's fair to assume just from the descriptions who the plot will be about.  I mean, I thought D3012 was going to be a heavy Leela only plot but it ended up being a straight up 'classic trio' plot that emulated AHITP quite well.

Any Australians who'd like to watch the new episodes when the local networks allow it, The new season seems to be kicking off on either the 4th or 11th of July 8pm channel 11. TV Tonight lists it on the fourth, but I've seen ads that I'm sure said the 11th. Perhaps Melbourne gets it a week before Sydney?

Couldn't they have just put Season 6 Volume 1 and Season 6 Volume 2, etc.?

Also, Matt, David, Billy, John and Maurice are doing a 30 minute live Q&A on Wednesday 11th July after the airing of 'Zapp Dingbat', talking about the episode and the episode after that, 'The Butterjunk Effect'. More info here.

Oh and Billy will be doing more Fry memes, live.

Hm...ZD and TBE are the two episodes fans expect to be the suckiest of season 7A. So, an evil man might suspect the live Q&A idea might have been born out out an anticipated need to justify themselves... :p :D

Not in season 7A, as it appears. Most plots will be Leela, then Bender. So far, not one single Fry solo plot is known, and he only shares two plots with Leela by now. (Even Farnsworth and possibly Amy seem to get solo plots).
In season 7A, it seems they might aim for giving Leela the overall protagonist status (I still hope not, with Leela being my least favorite character. I might have dropped one or two subtle hints regarding that matter... :D :p)

I was kind of hoping that Viva Mars Vegas would be an Amy/Leo/Inez episode, but I guess the whole "mega rich person becoming poor but becoming rich again" story has been done to death.

I'm not sure about Amy getting a solo episode.  Strictly speaking, Amy hasn't really had a solo episode of her own yet: she's always been paired with another character.  TDK is the only episode were the pairing was platonic rather then romantic.

I'm going to be optimistic about TBE.  When Futurama does sexy jokes well, it does them well.  AWITM, after all.
