WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO HERMES>> THIS IS NOT COOL!!

I was picturing a cool sleek cyborg... not this abomination!

I must say.. I am physically upset and sad.
Forget what I said b4... this may be the worst season ever.

I don't give a fuck how great Ken's script is, this looks amazingly god-awful!

The only thing they got right... is I was expecting him to have a blue or purple visor with a red eye.. even down to the one red light pupil that bounces back and forth.

I assumed this b/c he wears glassess.

Anyway the twist will be he has to learn a valuable lesson about loving who you are.. b/c his new body won't be able to do something he did before b/c he gets addicted and goes overboard... obviously.

It could be.... the MOST EPIC FAIL OF 2012!

Oh my god....... This is DEFINITELY NOT what I was expecting to see of a bionic hermes! Also, How the hell did he get into the building??  I bet we can expect to see alot of PE Headquarter Damage!  I WAS excited for this new season at first, but now I really don't know what to expect from this season! It could be surprisingly GOOD, or it could be WORSE than Season 6A.  :hmpf:

Possible plot line - Hermes goes overboard with his upgrading and needs to be stopped/convinced to stop. Like one of those crazy people who get hooked on plastic surgery.

You hate the cyborg design because it's designed to be reprehensible.

That's my guess.

Sorry for the double: I accidentally did that.

It just looks like the same thing the Simpsons did with Homer and his addiction with plastic surgery.... in season 16 or 17... or who the fuck cares.

Just like Butta Junk will be Strong Arms of the Ma 2...

I get it, he's susposed to look awful.... but guess what it's not funny... it's just awful.

MuchAdo, weren't you looking forward to this episode before you saw the design? Now you dislike it and are declaring burning hatred to the show?!

Exactly! You can't judge the quality of new episodes before they air. (Well maybe you can, but you can't always 100% know if it's gonna suck or not.)

HERMES LOOKS AWESOME. WOOP! :D Not what I was expecting either, but certainly not a bad thing. :laff:

I'm pretty sure Bender said Planet, since I can't recall of hearing an AS sound while he said it.

Yep, he says "planet". ;)

Hey wait guys, this could be Hermes towards the middle/end of the episode, I thought he would gradually upgrade himself? I don't think he's gonna skip from being a human straight to a mech, he must keep adding pieces everytime, seems pretty obvious since none of them really match up. Makes sense for him to look pretty 'crazy' that far along his upgrading frenzy.

Hermes has become a shell of his former self. probably not for long though. i don't think he'll be doing limbo anymore with that body

Nope.
When the "Kissing Fry" video stops playing, and the little windows "related vids" are shown, the vid is displayed again. And under "Kissing Fry", there is written
"Bender thinks this plan has got it going on".

It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

You already have reacted negatively like this... before me... to other different  material... you just want to have friends on here... thus Danny you my boy are a hypocrite.

I was excited about the new season.. until now.

You can't do that to Hermes... he's better than that.

The show is getting further away from itself it seems... the characters far more wacky.

All I was trying to say is the characters are simply servicng the story now.. as opposed to the story servicing the characters.

Please stop talking to me Danny... forever.

Oh just give the episode a chance. Wait until you've watched it to declare it the worst ever. Oh, and be nice to Danny. He's just trying to stop you saying something that'll make you look foolish. Or something.

It's a Ken Keeler episode. He's the only writer on Futurama's staff to have won a PEELie award. Check out the presentation. I have no idea why it's not listed on his IMDB or infosphere page yet though.

So anyhow, you know that with his credentials, it stands a chance of being a decent episode. Give it a chance.

The Hermes design looks rather like a battle droid. A shape suitable for e.g. a mercenary upgrading himself/replacing lost body parts.
With Hermes, I would have expected some more "office-like equipment".

Also, Hermes "essence" was lost on that design. The machine's design -even when looking different- should still immediatelly remind the viewer of Hermes.

Danny hates me to no end and I don't enjoy him and I'm not leaving and he can't get over the fact that people hate stuff.

Some people look more foolish than others.

The episode might provide a justification for the picture... which doesn't look completely terrible. I'm interested in how it came to be, for example, that Hermes' arms don't match up.

Even if it's terrible, even if all of Season 7  is... I'll be happy to have new Futurama episodes to bitch about when they air. But I'm not going to bitch about them until I've watched them and judged them and I can make an informed decision about whether I'm going to be a gushing fanboy or a bilious torrent of rage when I log onto PEEL.

Finally, for all you know I'm saving the world right now between posts. Instead of taking apart a model TARDIS to get at the bit that makes the whooshy noise. Which is totally not what I'm doing. Honest. And I won't be doing anything illegal with it once I've got it out. Honest.

You can trust me, I'm on the internet!

Weren't we meant to be discussing Futurama? I know that's what I was doing. We were talking about how much you love the design for Robot Hermes, originally. Then I made a post, saved the world, made another, and then you went offtopic.

Crazy, crazy stuff. Anyhow, I agree with you on one point: The design for Robot Hermes looks fantastic. I'll remember you were the first person to say that, when I tell other people!

Ah. Tactical editing. Now nobody but the two of us knows what you did! I shall have to remember that for future discussions with you, I should always quote your post.

Robot Hermes does look a little more menacing than I would have thought a bureaucrat needs to be. I wonder if once he began to upgrade himself he took a second job... specifically he looks a little like he's meant to be a club bouncer. Aren't you just incredibly excited at the prospect of seeing Hermes throw somebody out of a nightclub? Maybe Barbados Slim? I know you are!

Naw, everyone's told me you are insane.  :laff:

But trustworthy. Insanity doesn't have to be a crippling disability. In fact, for a mad scientist it's a prerequisite. It's also far nicer than what they've been saying about you.

Interesting.  It seems the reason for Leela and Amy being all over Fry is because he gets sprayed with a giant butterfly pheromone.

Also, the sport is played in a zero-g dome on the Moon.

I am going to hold to the idea that Bender doesn't say "planet" (because who the f refers to the Moon as a planet?) and says "plan" instead.  His plan being to spray Fry with butterfly pheromone.  Still not sure on the motive.

It could also be "plant", in theory. If the butterjunk drug is plant derived, that could do it.

Well, it completely ruined a shippy part of the episode to me.

Also, I remember that Fry's hair was wet on the storyboard. Pheromone?

I doubt a pheromone would cause Leela to use the specific word "boyfriend" in addition to just making her attracted to him.  Amy didn't respond similarly by saying, "No, he's my boyfriend."  Amy acknowledged that Fry is Leela's boyfriend and said that she couldn't keep him all to herself. = Shippyness intact. :)

EDIT:

That's definitely possible, although at this point we don't know anything about the biology of these giant butterflies and their nectar/pheromone relationship.

So we've gone from declaring the show dead any time there's a sub-par episode, to declaring it dead any time there's any preview or new piece of information about an episode? Good job being rational, guys.

As for Mecha Hermes, I like how Fry and Bender both seem happy about Hermes' cyborg-ness (which I'm certain is a real word).

"not being irrational" said by a boy who seems to think other people's reasons for (not) watching a show are subject to his approval seems to be a contradiction in terms.

That's not word for word what the original post said, but it's the general idea.

That's hypocrisy, not a contradiction in terms. :p

I'm not saying you can't decide to stop watching Futurama, I'm just saying it's a little irrational to write the show off completely over such small things as out-of-context still images or new character designs for one episode or even episode titles.

Edited to add the quote so my post (sort of) makes sense.
