Another new title has been revealed by the Copyright Office: "The Butterjunk Effect".

Sort of reminds me of a Big Bang Theory episode title.

Isn't that a play on words for the "butterfly effect" theory?

It is, but the show's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that episode title, because most of their episode titles go like "The [insert something science-y]". Only realized the pun a few minutes later.  :hmpf:

Doing a butterfly effect episode actually seems like a pretty interesting concept for them to use. They used the grey goo theory back in "Benderama", and now they're doing the butterfly effect.

Perhaps this could be a sequel to "A Big Piece of Garbage", based on the "Junk" in that title? Or something about junk food?

Sweet name, weird, but sweet. It makes my brain imagine a number of different items when I read it. :O_o:

Also, Aimee Steinberger tweeted:

started on storyboard thumbnails for #futurama next season show 8 this week. It's a BIG script. Intimidating, but cool!

Where are the good old titles "A Flight to Remember" "A Pharaoh to Remember" ....?

It probably does mean something...

"A Pharoah to Remember" and "A Flight to Remember" only really make sense with the hindsight we have of the episodes.

I wonder if you'd be complaining if the title was "A Butterjunk to Remember".

Why be scared of TNUK? He's got a hefty wad of argumentative support and a short fuse for ignorance... but other than that, my bet is on him being a kitty.

Anyways, I have nothing against the title "The Butterjunk Effect". I also have no idea what it means, but okay. It has potential as a good sci-fi plot.

If it's a pop culture reference, it would most likely be a reference to the movie "The Butterfly Effect" (it came out several years ago and was Ashton Kutcher's hilarious attempt at serious acting). The actual theory is definitely way more likely, though.

Hmm, "Butterjunk" originally made me think of junk food. Hah.

Somebody remind me exactly what the butterfly effect is again, please. Doesn't it have something to do with time travel? (I could be completely off-base here)

No, but I don't think so, I think the basis of the butterfly effect is "if a butterfly flaps its wings halfway across the world, does that cause a hurricane on the other side weeks later". Like, how big of an effect can small, almost insignificant things have?

It's essentially the idea that any action, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, might trigger a chain of events that leads to something big down the line. It's named for the hurricane scenario mentioned above.

It often comes into play with time-travel because of the popular genre trope of going back in time, changing something in the past and it having a huge effect on the present. "All the Presidents' Heads" demonstrates this nicely. Fry borrors a lantern which is quite a small act, but it causes a chain reaction of events that lead to America being all British. I imagine this episode will leave time-travel out of things though... time travel is only so closely tied to the phrase because of the overblown Ashton Kutcher nonsense film/vehicle.

I believe that the first use of a butterfly to change the course of history was a 1952 Ray Bradbury story, "A Sound of Thunder", which is about a time traveler who accidentally steps on a butterfly.  Returning to the time he came from, he finds that the world has changed quite a bit from what he remembers.  This story predates the use of the term "butterfly effect" in the sense of a butterfly flapping its wings and changing the weather, which first was used in a 1963 scientific paper.

You're on a roll...

I wish I was.  It would be a bit squashed, but nothing some butter couldn't fix.

On another note, I really hope Zapp doesn't get anywhere with seducing Munda away from her husband.  I really like Munda and Morris as a couple and as Leela's loving devoted parents, and I would really hate Zapp forever if he actually messed that up in anyway.

Not hot any of the titles or very many of the storylines, but they will all be fun I'm sure.  Butterjunk doesn't really work I have to admit.  I'm not sure where they are even going with that.. is it supposed to be a pun on butterfly effect?  It doesn't work.  At all.

But it's rather premature to evaluate a title until you've seen the actual content. I suspect that "junk" will tie into a major plot point, or some kind of theme.

That is true, though I just dont think the title is a very good one.  It just sounds clunky.

I feel like there's no way Zapp could ever actually seduce Munda. His attempts are what would be funny, and as such are probably what the ep will focus on.

Well, I would certainly not like Zapp successfully seducing Munda (Munda and Morris are just the "nice old couple" in character design, and that's the way these characters work best imhO), with Leela going to bed with Zapp to lure him away from Munda.
(Would remaind me a bit too much of IAGGDL, and that comic where they are in that youth camp with Zapp not remembering Leela. With the whole universe to chose from, the writers should not have to use similar plots twice).

Okay...but maybe I shouldn't start complaining about that episode before it acutally airs :p (On the other hand..I'm German. We just like to complain... :D )

I remember hating the title "The Duh-Vinci Code" when I first heard it. It just sounded like a bad play on "The Da Vinci Code" but, then I watched it and it became apparant that the overriding theme of the episode is Fry's stupidity, which meant that I actually love the title now.
As I result, I don't judge the titles prior to seeing the episodes if I can help it now.

I hope these Zapp seducing Leela plots/scenes end soon. Yeah I said it. He must realise nothing's going to happen. And there is no way in hell Leela's gonna sleep with him after reading her future with Fry. (Unless that's the part were Fry slaps her.)

And how does a famous military leader always end up on Earth in New New York, NEAR Leela?

Why can all sentient life speak english?   How does Zapp manage to constantly keep his job, even though he handed over the planetary defense system to a poorly disguised alien, destroyed the Doop headquarters, piloted a civilian starliner into a blackhole and left the passengers to their doom, destroyed the Hubble telescope...
It's just not something you think about.  Zapp is a human I suppose, is a member of the DooP, and Earth seems to be one of the most important members of it.

Maybe Leela banging Zapp again is what got made Fry go "Girl, oh no you didn't in the future!" and slap her in Overclockwise.

Man, I definitely see the difference between when these episodes first aired and when they air now on the weekends. I am watching Love's Labours lost in Space and I already notice exactly which lines were sped up, which ones redubbed, what scenes were cut out...it feels so rushed...I think the time constraints are affecting the episodes of new pacing now...
