This ep is still only 84% on CGEF, and it's only joint fourth highest rated out of all the 6B eps so far. I'm disappointed, very disappointed ...

Law and Oracle is probably my second fave of 6B, but I prefer Möbius Dick, I just love it so much! Btw, I see it's now just dropped to 83% on CGEF ...

Yes, but I was 50-50 on if he was telling the truth or pretending to say it was on purpose incase it was a huge goof and he was trying to cover it up. That's why I asked again.

For a brief period this ep went down to 82% on CGEF which is crazy, now back up to 83% but still far too low. I much prefer it to Overclockwise which has 10% more, and in fact I prefer it to all of 6B. Cold Warriors comes closest, but Möbius Dick is in my opinion the most underrated ep of the show ever to this day. It's criminal, I don't know what the fuck people were thinking rating half of 6B over it on CGEF. I don't get it, it's fucking weird...

You have good taste, DannyJC13. I'd rate Möbius Dick over The Why of Fry myself, then again The Why of Fry isn't a fave ep of mine and Möbius Dick is. The Why of Fry is a solid ep, but I don't often get the urge to watch it. Möbius Dick is just plain awesome, it offers something fresh and fun, totally Sci-Fi and lots of laughs. Great animation, just sublime...

Leela was badly out of her normal character, but this seems to have been required by the ploty, so I can more-or-less forgive it.
Well..I cannot No, kidding aside: I prefer the "character defines the story" attitude. And -except the Captain Rank- Leela had hardly anything in common with Ahab. Personally, I would have prefered Farnsworth to be on board: Getting the statue back in order not having to compensate the relatives would have been at least some plausible motivation. And as he had the highest command authority, no problems with Leela here (and it would have been in character for her to lead a mutiny against Farnsworth to protect an animal).

I prefer the story to be character-driven but I can forgive an episode for taking somebody slightly out of character in order to drive a plot that's somewhat engaging. This. Sure Leela's character got stretched a little, but then again even I sometimes act out of character in real life. There will be times in most people lives where they act out of character to what most people expect, even to family which have known them for years. It's not something which only happens in cartoons. In this instance it appears to have mainly been written to help carry the plot, a dangerous path, but as TNUK says I can forgive it because it's engaging and just a damn awesome ride all-round... Besides, Leela has had her moments of madness in previous episodes so it could be argued that having another such moment is within her character traits to some extent anyway, even if in this instance it does somewhat contradict a few small elements of past information. Those are perhaps a little jarring, but I never said this ep was perfect, just extremely good and nearly there...

I saw this the second time now since I watched it in its first airing. It is the second episode on the Volume 6 Dvd. Maybe I am just in a better mode watching these, but they're not as bad when I first saw them. Originally I see I gave this episode a 6, I would probably move it up to an 8 now. I still find Leela's obsession a little troubling to bear, however when watching this I remember she did have her own harpoon in The Deep South..

I knew he's seen it, I meant a second viewing might be in order. But I guess I can't change that.
I did indeed watch it a second time. Upon first viewing, I was willing to give it a 4/10, because some Futurama episodes do not look too good upon first viewing. The second time, I was just willing to rate it 2/10 (that one mercy point for the animation). I tried to watch it a third time, but stopped.. In fact , Möbius Dick is the reason why I will not buy Futurama volume 6. I was determined to throw the Möbius Dick containing DVD away, no matter what other episodes on that disc would have to be sacrificed. I expected the episodes to be split over at least 3 DVDs. When I found out that there are just two..well..the whole thing is just no longer worth it. To cut a long story short: Yes, I really dislike Möbius Dick VERY MUCH.

I was determined to throw the Möbius Dick containing DVD away, no matter what other episodes on that disc would have to be sacrificed. Bit drastic isn't it? I don't much care for Holiday Craptacular, but I wouldn't even consider throwing the disc away just because it's on it. Also, Möbius Dick is not even a bad ep. I fail to see how you can hate it so much, it's pretty mind boggling ...

To be fair to Inquisitor Hein, when I asked him about it in IRC and he said that no, he wouldn't really throw the disc away, and went on to say that he didn't actually enjoy 6B enough to justify buying the set anyway (which I agree with him about). Well...you still didn't get it. a) I dislike Möbius Dick extremely. What many fail to see: A collection is not only for watching, is also about owning. Would you put e.g. the "Twilight Saga" in your bookshelf, even when not reading it? I doubt so. E.g: Many Star Wars Fans would draw the line of having an signature from Ahmed Best, or CGI haters even from Jerome Blake (though he's a really nice guy), etc.... So, it's not just a "not watching", Möbius Dick bears the clear characteristics of a "stain on the collection" for me. (other might see it different...but it's MY collection, after all ) Or, using a mathematical comparison, NOT owning Möbius Dick is worth some points for me. b) Owning the other episodes of season 6B is also worth some points for me. So, the question does arise: Do the points of owning 6B equal or surpass the points of not owning Möbius Dick? My personal assessment: - The season 6B episodes are not that good that they can equal that "stain" on the collection. -Would Volume 6B have consisted of 3 Discs: Removing the Möbius Dick DVD would have left 2/3 of season 6B (without that stain) for full price, which still might have been worth it. - Season 6B consists of 2 Discs: Removing the Möbius Dick DVD leaves 1/2 of season 6B at full price, and therefore not worth it. Ergo: Purchase is not worth it.

Yeah... almost every single disc of Futurama has at least one episode I'm not a big fan of: Season 1, Disc 1: The Series has Landed Season 1, Disc 2: Fear of a Bot Planet Season 1, Disc 3: Mars University Season 2, Disc 1: A Head In the Polls Season 2, Disc 2: Raging Bender Season 2, Disc 3: Mother's Day Season 2, Disc 4: The Cryonic Woman Season 3, Disc 2: That's Lobstertainment! Season 3, Disc 3: A Leela of her Own Season 3, Disc 4: The 30% Iron Chef Season 4, Disc 1: A Taste of Freedom Season 4, Disc 2: Crimes of the Hot Season 4, Disc 3: Obsoletely Fabulous Season 4, Disc 4: Spanish Fry Season "5", Disc 1: In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela Season "5", Disc 2: The Futurama Holiday Spectacular Season 6, Disc 1: Neutopia Season 6, Disc 2: Yo Leela Leela
The only one that doesn't is Season 3, Disc 1.
