So this is a topic that may get precisely zero responses, depending on whether anyone else is as big of a dork with their pets.

But I'm just wondering if anyone else here has been geeky enough to name any of their pets after Futurama characters.

Last year (in the middle of the 6A run, actually) I adopted a 2-year old (now 3) dog and named him Bender. He's part-black lab, part-basset, and requires alcohol to keep his fuel cells charged. One of those facts might be fictional.

Yes, I have named a pet after something from the show: I have a cat named Vincent.

Now to see if somebody gets it...

Bender is such a cute, strangely appropriate name for a dog. Seriously, I heaved a big ol' mental "awww" when I read that, DtB.

I've never named a pet after a Futurama character, but if I ever do, I'm either stealing "Bender" or using "Zapp." The latter would be especially appropriate if I got a dog who humped everything that moved.

Bender is a great name for a dog. I would also totally name a dog Morbo. I do have a koi fish named Zoidberg, but he may or may not still actually be alive. We get herons this time of year and I haven't checked for a couple weeks.

Infoman, d'awwwww.

For full disclosure, I think I originally thought of naming my dog Bender when I saw some post on the Futurama Facebook about someone naming their dog Bender....and it's apparently not unheard of, since on the 'net I've found people who've named two pets "Bender" and "Fry" (either two cats, or a dog and cat, or whatever). So it's not an entirely original idea, though I'm still happy to accept awesomeness points for it. There are other Bender dogs too, but it's less clear how many of them are named after the character, if there aren't other pets in the house with Futurama names. People do usually guess right with my Bender, though (when they have a guess). I've gotten Breakfast Club as a guess once or twice.

Morbo is an awesome pet name, by the way.

My friend has a bird named Fry (or Fri) which was named after Fry. Her cousin also had a bird named Nibbler apparently.

Not so long ago, we used to punish doubleposters severely, for wasting the board's resources!

And I have no Futurama named pets. Pets should earn their own names, not be shoehorned into roles already defined by the characters that originally held the names.

My cat is named Cliffy, short for Cliffhanger because he loves to climb up onto high places. I didn't name him that though, he was originally owned by my sister and brother in law. Usually I just call him Little Freak. Not like he cares what he's called as long as he's fed and given attention.

My cat is named Mister Nikkipopolous, after the Simpsons line "We're gonna sell him to Mr Nikkipopolous?"

I have three cats: Turanga Leela and Philip J Fry. We just took in a third who has no name, but I was considering Bender or Clamps. Or maybe Nibbler. Not sure.

Now I also have the OTHER cat my sister and brother in law owned. I'm some kind of dumping site for pets they've grown tired of.

This one is named Donut. His name used to be Sedona but I thought that was a little hifalutin' for an animal that eats kibble and bugs, and poops in a box. So he became Donut, and answers to that name perfectly fine. He also eats my food when I'm not looking, and wakes me up by doing gymnastics on my bed on days when I don't have to get up for work.

Really, I just call them both little freaks when we're alone. It works for all involved.

Edit - except "little freaks" is pronounced "widdle fweaks".

In that case, the name "Bender" seems more like an obligation than a choice :)
Say: Does Fry happen to have orange and (potential) Bender grey fur ? ;)
(Would not want to wish one eye on the Leela cat, of course....)

Hey, the candidate for the Bender name could also be larcenous, callous, greedy, and inconsiderate!

Like every other cat in existence.

Yeah, Bender would be a good choice, Hein.

Congrats on the new addition to your family, Capper!  Nearly all my cats have been rescued in some fashion or another, but so far I've managed to avoid becoming the "cat person" upon whom people thrust the pets they've become tired of.

Only had one pet ever named after any character, that I remember, and that character was a cat.  Hell, I'm not even sure that I can remember!  Lessee...

Surely I'm forgetting a few.

What about Shrodinger's as a name for a new feline? Or what that be too obvious?

If the cat is ivory-colored, perhaps Judge Whitey would do. :)

Fixed it for you :p
On a more serious note: This page lists the top 40 cat names for cats of both genders. Schrödinger did not make it in the list (though I cannot comment on said list's data quality and credibility).

I feel that if I named an animal zoidberg I'd have a natural predesposition to treat it like zoidberg.  Also they arnt futurama names but my two of my three cats are named moe and Ron.  Tee hee  :laff:

Well! Mr. Heiny, the umlaut police! (and I omited the 'c'.) I don't have fancy diacritical marks on my keyboard.

OT, I prefer giving animals human names. For instance, Lily is my puppy's name. I named my in-laws' latest heifer Hildegard. It's just more dignified for the animal.

Oooh, that is a clever idea. Get a hermit crab, name it Zoidberg, and supply it with a series of garbage items to use as shells as it grows.

Pics would have to be taken at every step of the trash-habitation, of course.

It'd be a challenge to provide items the critter would use as time went by.

Sounds like the sort of
Thing that fascinates the folks
Over at Reddit.

But yes, it does sound kind of awesome. If I had a saltwater tank and lived near enough to the sea to go looking for hermit crabs, I'd start that this weekend. Hopefully I could get Zoidberg to use one of the clay Bender heads I've made as a shell at some point. That'd surely be worth a few bazillion upvotes. :p
