Actually, the Milky Way is barred spiral galaxy.

I was devastated when I first found this out. It was like everything I knew was wrong! :(

You beat me to the post.  Yes, it's a barred spiral.  Mayhaps it's a subtle, diffused bar?

My favorite planet in the Futurama universe might be Pluto, because thinking of tempura batter makes me hungry.

Reminded me of...

In one of the countless billions of galaxies in the universe, lies a medium-sized star, and one of its satellites, a green and insignificant planet, is now dead.

Evidently I'm out of the loop, but the last I knew the 'barred-ness' of the Milky Way had yet to be proven.

Belly up to the bar boys...

Well, if wiki says it

Astronomers first began to suspect that the Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy, rather than an ordinary spiral galaxy, in the 1990s. Their suspicions were confirmed by the Spitzer Space Telescope observations in 2005 which showed the galaxy's central bar to be larger than previously suspected.

then it must be true, surely.

Well, it would take a while to launch a probe way out of the plane and beam back a photo. This is an artistic rendering based on the latest Spitzer data.

Though apparently some scientists think our bar might be a little bigger than imagined in this image.

I'll say that Torando Planet they went to in Proposition Infinity!  I also liked Pluto and Omicron Persei 8.  Do planets they have gone to in the comic books count?  If so, I liked that jungle planet they went on.  Too bad there's not a planet that's like a 1970's police movie!

From the same episode, the high-gravity planet was pretty cool. Nothing quite as refreshing as high-gravity rain.

Also, hi everyone! I'm new. And apparently a poppler.
