Back with our last episode review thread for this season. If you don't want to be spoiled, go away. Some moderator will hopefully open this thread shortly before the episode airs in the US. No download and no pre-air talk please. Try to keep this thread reviewy. Other aspects might deserve their own thread.

i will edit my post to review myself later

this is one of those rare times i wish i was more of a nerd.  This episode still held up well for me considering I've never watched trek, but I cant help but feeling that there are lots of inside jokes I'd find funnier if i was "inside."  Lots of good one liners though.

Wonderful episode, the prelim sketches I saw didn't do this one justice, especially Leela and Kirk getting freaky.   :)  A well done nod to ST fandom as well, a bunch of my Trekkie friends were hooting at the references. The crack about it being another scifi show canceled before its time was poignant since it also applies to Futurama. A hearty 5/5 from me!

I'm more of a Star wars guy, so the episode didn't have as much of an appeal to me. A great episode all the same, one of the best this year. Great mix of comedy and action, and great use of the guest stars. Miles above last year's season finale. A-

Was there any part of this episode that didn't rock?  From Jonathan Frakes' little cameo to the redshirt jokes to Melllvar, this was a teriffic episode.  I may have to update my top10.  And could Leela's shirt have ridden up any higher?

i liked it, im not a trekkie, in fact i've never seen a single epidode of the original startrek so i bet theres loads of references i didn't get. Although i'm a shipper i didn't much mind Leela macking on kirk, the thing that annoyed me most was Fry's complete lack of reaction to seeing it. At the very least i expected him to frown at them, but no he just stood there with a completely neutral expression.   :hmpf:

It was ok, but I'm not a big Trekie.
I definately agree with Nix: Bender had the best line. I also like when he asked if people who don't like Star Trek could leave, and one of the crew looked hopeful. Good stuff... good not great...

It was a great episode like always.  Great concept and was sucessfully pulled out.  THe only problem was a lack of the cast.  Other than that I enjoyed it very much even though I'm not a big old school Trek fan.

Heheh, if ever there was TV episode that brought both Trekkies and Trek-haters together in harmony, this is it. Yeah, that quantum-cloud thing that kept zapping the dead actor out of anger, I thought that was funny. And there were several celebrities at the same time, without messing up the dialogue. I give it a B.

I liked this episode very much.  I thought I wouldn't like it as much as I did though, since I don't watch Star Trek.  A great way to end the season even though it was a pretty short.

I wanna know what the end credit gag with Kif was!  Stupid Fox!

Overall, a really great episode.  It was nice to get some of the ST refs too, because TOS is the only series I've really ever watched.  Twas a nerds paradise too.  I loved how Melllvar wrote a fanscript!  Ha!  Take that light jab fandom!

Might just make it's way into my top ten.

Apparently according to the Ain't It Cool News review of this episode, found in another thread somewhere in this forum, there were end credit gags involving Amy's boyfriend (I assume that's Kif).  But Fox blows donkey balls, so we get to see nothing.  :(

Great episode, I think it is time to change from top 10 to top 11.  Too many good episodes to start squeezing ones out.

The ending credits joke (I didn't see the the actual credits, I just know what it is) is Kif standing on the view screen with his eyes wide open.  There is an alien monster in the ending credits of Star Trek with the same thing.

TLZ has a grab of the ending credit.  I almost fell on the floor laughing.  If you have ever seen Star Trek's closing credits you'd immediately recognize it.

Well, the original ST was the only trek I've completely seen and the reffs, like the Welshy, complete with the red shirt, getting zapped was hillarious.

The only real downer was DeForrest Kelly (Dr. McCoy) passed away a little over a year ago.  I could only wonder what dialog he could've been stuck with...

McCoy: Damnit Fry, I'm a Doctor not a bending unit!

Bender: Sucks to be you!

this epesode was very funny. I loved the end where they met Zap and it turns out that they are still fighting Melllvar as the court marshal was going on. That was so funny. And the line where Melllvar says his ship was in mint condition and he had to take it out of its original packaging. I have met some people who are big collectors they are so funny like that. But even if you are not a die hard trekie this episode was very good.

I could be wrong, but I think that ship comes from the show Space 1999.  I think.

Good episode.  I liked the fanscript gag and Fry making a bow and arrow out of catipillars.

Edit:  I knew I've seen that ship somewhere.  If you go to Amazon.com and search for Space 1999 under DVD, you'll come across the boxsets.  There's a picture of that ship in the upper corner of the DVD season 1 set.

Heh heh.  A nice, solid episode.  I went out this afternoon with my dad for some quality photography and 70s nostalgia time and we didn't get home in time so we missed the first few minutes.  Other than that, I enjoyed it.  I have never seen an episode of Star Trek, though my friend Nick got me to watch Enterprise once...Anyway, it was funny as Melmar(sp?) seemed to be the stereo-typical geek.  Also, I never thought Fry was the nerd type.  Ah well.  Learn something new every day, I suppose.   :)   As stated by someone before me, I'm confused as to why Fry's expression was neutral when they found Leela making out with Shatner/Kirk.  Though I guess he didn't think much of it because of "The Why of Fry"...  Also, are we really to believe that it takes absolutely no time at all for Leela to round second base with yet another guy with a huge ego?  C'mon.  Maybe she just has an affinity for the complete idiodic ego-maniac types.  Y'know, women can be so blind.  We never know a guy's true colors til too late.  I speak from experience.   :)
My rating for this ep? Eh...A-.  I need at least one shipper nod.  An innuendo maybe?  Hello?

Another instant classic. So far, Season 4 is 3 for 3.

Favorite bits... well, pretty much everything, though I really liked the "Menagerie" chair, Kirk ripping his shirt before the battle, Bender's machine gun, the untimely death of Welshy...

It almost makes me wonder if that line was added after Futurama was dropped.

On with the review:  Good stuff.  Like almost everyone else, I'm not a huge fan of TOS, but I have seen and heard enough obscure jokes about it to piece it together.  Even though I'm just a pseudo-fan, I really thought this episode was grand.  Melllvar's behavior was exactly what I'd expect from an all-powerful Trekkie, Fry's behavior was exactly what I've been expecting from him, and I liked the addition (and repeated killings) of Welshie.  In addition, this episode seemed liked a lot of Voyager episodes where it sort of works backwards and then jumps forward every so often.
