Watching Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and I'd forgotten about the scene where Catherine Hicks tells Shatner "I belong here; I am a whale biologist" :D

This was the textbook we used in O-Chem. Don't tell me you didn't read that as Solomons & Fry Hole.

Why yes, I did read it as Fry Hole :)

Also the image in the centre is vaguely reminiscent of a certain space probe / death sphere from In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela :D

And an amazing shot of a real-life whale acting like Möbius Dick! (pardon the added cheesy sound effect)

Grinding away on my bike ride yesterday when an old blue pickup passed me.  With a variation of this hand-painted on the tailgate:

:) :) :)

They zipped by rather quickly, but I gave a big thumbs-up as fast as I could :)

This wasn't recent, but I remember this one time in English class when the teacher brought up the acronym PEEL while we were going over how to write an essay or something. I don't really remember what it stood for, probably because of the initial shock and excitement. :D

This happened to me, also! Back in high school.

I passed by a Seagram's Strawberry Daquiri beverage at the end of an aisle at Safeway the other evening. I was about to purchase it, as it seemed like a pleasant way to end the day, until an employee told me that they had more flavors elsewhere in the store, including a fuzzy navel one.

Hey bar keep, I'll have a fuzzy navel and she'll have the girliest drink in the house.

Two fuzzy navels coming up!

(I had never had a daquiri nor a fuzzy navel before, nor any beverages flavored as such. When the employee mentioned the term "fuzzy navel," however, there was no doubt which variety I was fated to purchase and consume.)

Only for girlymen! :p

Yeah, it was a pretty low ABV, so it was mostly just sweet, fruity flavoring.

Was that 40% dolomite?

There's a science-based magnet school in St. Paul called the Farnsworth Aerospace Academy. Not sure if the curriculum touches on quantum neutrino fields.

Random bit of trivia: Codwainer Smith (Paul Linebarger) wrote lots of science fiction books, where the number 56 kept popping up.

I'm watching Formula One racing, and was *stunned* to see a commercial featuring Stephen Hawking!  Maybe he's done them before, but this is the first time I've seen one.

It reminded me of Futurama because the first thought that came to mind was "Hawking Hole" :D

Should I ask him to do voices? Or read some Trump quotes?

So, Skype conversation I was having earlier today, regarding a sim-racing league that I am a member of, and we're all having a get together in early December in a bar in Cardiff, only right now there's a major split going on and tensions are high, so the guy I was talking to, who is kinda in the middle of this fallout, jokedly suggests that we should find another bar and set up our own, anti-league meeting, to which I am tasked, I am tasked to exclaim "with Blackjack! And Hookers!!!"

So yeah, you could say the moment reminded me of Futurama... :D

Unfortunately my friend wasn't reminded of Futurama. :hmpf:

It was not something he had in mind unfortunately.

For the longest time I was wrongly convinced that Futurama was a niche interest, then I became convinced it gained cult status, so everyone knew about it.

Or maybe my friend is a philistine. Anyway, made the conversation more interesting.

Yeah, I see Futurama references everywhere and they usually make me smile.

A co-worker from 10+ years ago and I stay in touch on FB.  He lives on a boat, and posted a photo of his cat getting into a cupboard with a comment along the lines of "Bender found the kitty treats".  Knowing nothing about his show interests, I replied tentatively: "Bender, as in Bender bending Rodriguez? and attached a screencap of Bender.

Yep, kitty is named after the character, and I still have no idea what led to his naming the cat Bender :)

If seeing Futurama fans in the wild doesn't make you smile, IDK what will. The cat must have been a total klepto if he was named after Bender.

The person who named this eyeshadow was likely a fan. Naturally, I had to purchase it.

Hah!  That sound's like a female Zapp's self-description in some alternate Futurama universe.

"Oh, you must be Leela.  Zapp Brannigan, velour vixen, at your service."  <bows with a flourish>

The Neutopia episode had a lot of promise but the execution was somewhat grating to watch because it was very heavy-handed and over the top.  Still, I enjoyed most of it.

Also, Zapp was not amongst the characters that had their gender switched.  THAT would have been a blast to see, though I suppose Zapp's personality might have dominated the episode to the exclusion to the other characters.

Last night, in the ER, a patient was watching Futurama (I think the episode was "Law and Oracle") while the doc was interviewing him.

It took all of my willpower to pay attention to the interview and not the TV. ;) And even more willpower to not say "OMG I love that show and I love you for loving that show" ;)

Hahaha, I can so see it :)

In a medical situation, if I ever had any suspicion that one of the staff were Futurama fans, there's no way I could keep from looking them in the eye with a dead serious face and asking "Give it to me straight, doc.  Is it fin rot?  It's fin rot, isn't it?  Tell me it's not fin rot!"

You'll know a staff member is a Futurama fan when they tell you to pick a mouth, open it, and not inadvertently insult Zoidberg's mother.
