Long time lurker, first time poster.
Just have to comment on how good the scores have been lately. That's Christopher Tyng's work, right? Even though they apparently lack a live orchestra now, Futurama has been sounding better than ever.
I especially love the scores in moments like:
-Leela and Lars date in BBS - I seriously want this .mp3 -Fry and Farnsworth's one-month trip to Da Vinci's world -The last 7 minutes of The Late Philip J Fry - especially this. The soundtrack for this episode is simply amazing. I can watch the last moments of this episode with my eyes closed (not that I wouldn't want to keep them open), and just enjoy the music. I don't know if the episode would have that emotional power nor that magic wonder without that score. The suspended strings right when Leela's message appears and the soft voices when the world starts ending hark back to The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings (my fav. episode). I am very eager to listen to future scores from Tyng, they're better than most film scores (and Usher).

Saxamaphone, I am a first-time caller...er, poster here, too. I really like your post. I also find scores to be as interesting, if not more interesting, than the visual action or spoken dialogue of movies and TV shows. I'll have to re-watch those parts you mention. Re: that month-long trip to the Da Vinci's world, I think I was so entranced with the lyrical fluidity of the animation (and I'm always a sucker for beautiful space vistas), that I didn't even notice the music. I have to say, though, that if one notices the score RIGHT away, then that composer did a terrible job. e.g., the music for Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" was just so discordant on my ears, it really ruined the movie for me. So I was chagrined when it was nominated for an Academy Award (though I really am a fan of Mr. Eastwood's directorial work).

In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela From the sizzler at Comic-con and the premise, I have high hopes that The Prisoner of Benda is going to be placing toward the top

Updated list:
10. That Darn Katz! 9. Attack of the Killer App 8. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela 7. A Clockwork Origin 6. Proposition Infinity 5. Rebirth 4. The Duh-Vinci Code 3. Lethal Inspection 2. The Late Philip J. Fry 1. The Prisoner of Benda
Those top three episodes are more or less interchangeable; they'd fit comfortably in my Top 25 episodes overall.

Revised rankings: 1. The Prisoner of Benda 2. The Late Philip J. Fry 3. Lethal Inspection 4. A Clockwork Origin 5. The Duh-Vinci Code 6. Proposition Infinity 7. That Darn Katz! 8. Rebirth 9. Attack of the Killer App 10. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela
Benda was far funnier than Late, so that's why it gets the nod. I appreciated the epic sci-fi-ness of Late, but it needed the funny.

Yeah, that's pretty close to how I'm feeling about them too. It's neat that you've grouped them in that way as opposed to a numerical list, Mongo.

I don't agree with Mongo's listing, well the Average and below rankings anyway. Tho I do like how they were listed.

Is "Spleh" really a better tier than "Rather Pedestrian," or is that a reference to something?

So here comes my list. AotKA and IaGDL are listed as below average, but I'm really not in the block counting them as worst episodes ever. They're really good. Just not that good.
Amazing The Late Philip J. Fry The Prisoner of Benda
Above average Lethal Inspection A Clockwork Origin The Duh-Vinci Code
Average That Darn Katz! Proposition Infinity
Slightly below average In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela Attack of the Killer App

Ah, thank you. But surely a category that reminds one of DaveMason has to have some quality to it, right?
