I've been trying to find out if the new Futurama episodes will be shown in Canada or not.  I found a short little blurb on tvguide.ca that says no.

Quote
I can confirm that The Comedy Network has zero plans to air the animated series this summer — or fall. And Teletoon, which currently airs repeats, also hasn’t acquired the rights but are looking into it for the future. I will definitely keep you posted.

That is a bummer, sneak over the line force an American family at gun point. " Give me Futurama or give me a couple months in prison."

Well I was expecting that we wouldn't get any new episodes on any of the channels here in the summer. *sigh* Well at least Teletoon is looking into it. I bet Teletoon or maybe Global will end up showing the brand new season next summer. Guess I'll just have to rely on the good 'ol internet for this summer though.

I imagine DVD's would be released eventually or sooner since the movies proved to be a good source of juicey revenue. Can't see them waiting too long to tap some of that in this economy.

Same situation here in Germany.
Is there already a release date for the new season on DVD in the States?

There have been no announcements on DVDs of the new season yet. For all we know, we'll never have them on DVD. However, given Fox loves money, I'm sure they'll be out within a year or two.

And there hasn't been word on online streaming from sites like Hulu or comedycentral.com yet.

comedycentral.com just redirects me to http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca.  Must be because I have a Canadian IP address.

I just emailed Global to see if they have plans to show it.  They were the first to air "Bender's Big Score".  I'll let you know if I get a reply.

A large reason for it coming back is strong DVD sales, so of course they'll be released on DVD. The first episode hasn't even aired yet, so it's no surprise there's no DVD details yet...

Quick question - does anyone know any details of the new Futurama episodes being shown anywhere outside the US any time soon?

Of course not. The rest of the world doesn't exist to the USA.

I've searched far and wide and can't find any article on when it's airing in the UK or Europe or even if any channels have decided to show it. We have comedy central here in the Uk so i'm hoping they would air it on that but... Was hoping it would be airing here quickly enough so I could give my viewing to it on TV and not the net.

I doubt they'll ever air here live.

I am able to access the Comedy Central website through my iPhone, which I am glad...so I finally got to watch the Recap-o-rama video. So if Comedy Central will show the new Futurama episodes, then I will be able to watch it on my iPhone.

That's a clever workaround to the region restrictions; I didn't know that worked.

Regardless, there are many workarounds for the people outside of America -- or who don't get Comedy Central -- to see the new episodes of Futurama.

It's a shame that Global or the Comedy Network aren't simul-casting the new Futurama episodes -- but the same thing happens with new South Park episodes. (Although our Comedy Network doesn't bleep the swears, which is awesome!) It's annoying that Global isn't airing the new episodes considering that it's summer, and they're only showing reruns anyway.

i live in canada and when i google futurama it comes up with the "official futurama homepage" and it says the page is at comedycentral.com (which it should be) but when i click it i get redirected to the comedynetwork.ca main page and they have no info about futurama at all.

are we not getting the new futurama in canada or something? why cant i find the new episodes?

Unfortunately, there is no word yet on when Futurama will be airing outside of the US. I would assume the rights are with the network that showed the movies. Was that CTV or Global?

Actually Teletoon and Global does. I have no idea when those channels will air them, but in the meantime, you will have to rely on the internet to watch the new episodes. That's what I am doing.

Wrong.

lilkitten29 is correct. Global and Teletoon have the rights to air Futurama in Canada. I believe that Global has the exclusive rights to new episodes (it aired Into the Wild Green Yonder a few months ago when FOX aired primetime NASCAR that night), whereas Teletoon has the rights to the reruns.

Global has always been the Canadian network that has aired Futurama, because they've simul-casted FOX's Sunday night line-up for at least 15 years. CTV has never aired any Futurama episodes.

I hate that we can't watch it on TV in Canada. What makes it worse is we don't even get the new episodes on iTunes here!

Thank god for the internet, at least it allows me to watch the show.

I live in Canada as well, so it's a bit of a bummer that they won't air here for the general public. (Most of the people I know weren't even aware that Futurama had been brought back at all).

The good news is, there are several sites that update the new episodes almost as soon as they air. They're up to episode 7 right now, so the new season is accessable to anyone outside the USA. Thank goodness.

Slightly off-topic:

I've noticed that when I watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report here in Canada, they occasionally have promos during the end credits for the new episodes of Futurama. The first couple of times I saw them I assumed that meant that the Comedy Network was going to air the new episodes. But then I realized that those promos were recorded into those episodes of TDS and TCR by Comedy Central; needless to say, I was very disappointed.

Perhaps those Futurama promos will make Canadian Futurama fans aware that there are new episodes being shown in the 'States. Hopefully that will encourage the Comedy Network, Teletoon, or Global to buy the rights to air the new episodes of Futurama.

I assume that Teletoon will acquire them eventually, probably in a year, when they can be classified as "reruns", even though they'd be the first time they were aired on Canadian television. It's unfortunate that Canadian Futurama fans will have to wait so long to watch the new episodes.
