I was at the IOACentral forums today, and someone posted about some interesting options in a recent email survey they recieved, the poster was referring to the Animal Kingdom one, but that wasn't the one that caught MY eye....

Yeah.  Why is one of the options "Canadian History"?

Seriously, what are the relations between Universal Studios and 20th Century Fox?  I mean, they did win the rights to produce the film Serenity from 20th Century Fox's Firefly series.  And now this!

I imagine it's to tie-in with the Futurama live-action movie that Universal is filming next year.

I think there's also a Simpsons ride at Universal Orlando. I've only been to the park once in my life, about five years ago, but the themed areas (there were, like, Marvel superheroes and Dr. Seuss creatures and Saturday morning cartoon characters) are pretty fun. A Futurama one would be pretty amazing, considering it's such a rich landscape to draw material from. Y'know, PE flight simulators and such.

I think there's also a Simpsons ride at Universal Orlando.

There is; it's what they replaced the Back to the Future ride with.  It's at the Hollywood park as well.

I'd be up for a Futurama ride if it was done right; a whole themed area dedicated to the show would be pushing it for me, though.  Seeing a Bender mascot wandering the park for the purposes of "entertaining the kiddies" would possibly crush my soul.

Back to the Futurama would've been so much cooler.

Incidentally, I'm going to Universal this weekend. If I see somebody who looks like they know the business, I'll ask them.

What if the Bender mascot jammed a beer bottle in the eye of another mascot?

I wonder if there'll be a Zoidberg ride which instead of ponies or horses... we'll be riding giant sperms with the speaker constantly repeating

"Yippie-ki-yay! You'll never guess where I've been!"

Wow, I was just in Universal Studios Florida exactly a month ago!

I hope "Futurama" doesn't mean a future world section of the park.

If a Futurama area ever is introduced, I'll be there opening day just to hop in line for the suicide booth.

Duplicitous: Deceptive in words.

But really, that is an interesting point. But they did the Simpsons theme, so maybe they do mean the show.

But if it was the show, wouldn't it say TV show in parentheses?

Nor does "Battlestar Galatica", but it doesn't really need parentheses to denote what type of media it is.

Hey, maybe they could merge "Stargate", "Battlestar Galatica", and "Futurama" all into one part?

Futurama is a registered name, so Universal can't just use it as they please in their park. Their usage of it in the survey alone shows that they've had some talks with NewsCorp about possibly using the property in their theme park.

Also, mind you that's two Universal properties and two NewsCorp properties mentioned in the survey. They don't make the distinction for BSG and Futurama as it's common knowledge what the survey is talking about; Fringe needs the parenthetical explanation of it being a television show, and Stargate's parentheses are used to make it known that they speak of both the movie and the shows. The lack of parenthetical explanation of Futurama does not mean that it's saying "this is not a TV series" but saying "um, duh, that one".

I don't think "Futurama"'s much of a classic (yet) to have it's own themed section in an amusement park. It makes sense to incorporate "The Simpsons", "Jaws", "E.T.", "Twister", "Jurassic Park", "The Mummy", "Shrek", and even "Harry Potter" this autumn, but I don't think the "crowd" knows what the hell "Futurama" is.

There's always hope that "Futurama" will become the hit of the next decade (following in "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" footsteps)... Wow that's interesting- Futurama will be spanning three decades despite it being only on air for about seven years.

I have a strong feeling Twister's on its way out of the park. It's in an odd section (New York) and has been seasonally open lately (meaning they don't like it or it doesn't work right). Futurama would easily fit into New York, as it'd be the only NY themed attraction in the area. Mind you it says "themed area" but that could mean just a ride and gift shop.

I took the survey, here's a link:

I agree that Futurama isn't quite a "household name" property like The Simpsons or Jurrassic Park or whatever. But of the TV shows listed on the survey, Futurama is clearly the best in all respects. It's cartooney and colorful and has fun characters that easily translate into scary foam rubber costumes.

I think this is an awesome idea. Even if I weren't a fan of the show, the whole futuristic-comedy theme for an amusement park is a cool idea. I hope they do it!

A Futurama Ride wouldn't do the show true justice. There would need to be a couple of rides, a haunted-house style tour of the PX building and a concession stand selling Slurm. Then they could call it the "Futurama Experience". Maybe even "Futuramarama".

From people's reactions in park, other guests were quite warm to the possibility. Didn't get anything from staff, but I probably wasn't talking to the right person. Local 16 year oldsters probably would know.

Actually, the park sells Duff Beer and Flaming Moe's in honor of "The Simpsons". So Slurm is a definite.
