Let me just say that although this thread will probably be closed or moved or something, I suppose I'll try it anyway...and I sincerely apologize if there's anything like this already.

All right then, here goes- Although I'm new here, I had been reading the on-topic PEEL posts (I suppose that's what "lurking" is, eh?) for many months. I noticed that it was rather rare for new people to join PEEL. However, when I finally joined in mid-March, I found that for some reason there was a very noticeable influx of new joiners at about the same time. And so, out of sheer curiosity (and not out of bitterness at not being the only new person or anything like that), I ask all other PEEL newcomers the following question: why did you join just recently? And well-established PEEL users, feel free to submit your thoughts as well (if you want to).

By the way, I realize that it may be hypocritical for me to ask why anyone just now joined, since I don't have a very good reason as to why I myself just recently joined.

Shouldn't this be in off-topic discussion?  This is not really about Futurama.  Related, perhaps, but if you really stress it, so could everything on this board be.

In case you are wondering, I really became active on PEEL to find out what people here felt about the possibility of season 6 becoming a reality.

Douche!  He is asking for why you joined back then, ugh, everyone can check your join date, silly.

please ignore the above stupidity, tedward, and (a belated) welcome to PEEL!  There have been a couple of surges of new posters over the last couple of years.  I'm sure it has something to do with the dvd movies that have been coming out.

Yeah, I agree with soylentOrange: the movies are probably the main reason for so many new members. I myself decided to de-lurk after "Into the Wild Green Yonder" came out, both because I missed PEEL itself, and because I figured there'd be a whole lot of insightful discussion goin' on.

Tedward: The fourth Futurama movie was released in late February in the USA and March everywhere else. This contributed to the March spike in new user accounts. Though there's really always been a fairly steady influx of linguistically-challenged newcomers.

I must say your own spelling and grammar are a pleasant surprise.

I figured that there were surges before;  I just hadn't seen quite so many new names popping up in a while.

I myself decided to de-lurk after "Into the Wild Green Yonder" came out, both because I missed PEEL itself, and because I figured there'd be a whole lot of insightful discussion goin' on.

I rather wish I had joined sooner; it would have been interesting to be a part of the intense "debate" on Page 9 of the Bender's Game Reviews thread.

please ignore the above stupidity, tedward, and (a belated) welcome to PEEL!

Thank you, and thank you.

I think that's the first time I've ever seen coldangel_1 being nice.

I can't really add anything to whats been said but it used to be that the website called Can't Get Enough Futurama was the main fan site of Futurama and it advertises this forum. I haven't really done my research to know anything beyond that.

I joined many moons ago, but being in stupid Aussie Land I wasn't game to come around and risk having the movies spoiled but now all had arrived it is no hold bars for me.

I did not realise Europe and Canada was part of the USA.

Europe and Canada aren't part of anything.

Odd, cause the last film was released in Europe before the North American release, and it was released on the same day in Canada as in the USA.

Australia is apparently "elsewhere" compared to USA.

Ergo, there is only Australia and the USA.

Then I found a good sentence to keep in touch.

America - Canada's pants.

Welcome.

Like you, I was a long time lurker, for a number of years in fact. I found it the best place for Futurama news and rumours so I had a browse every once in a while.

As to what made me register - I don't really remember. Talking about the show with people who love it just as much as I do has a certain appeal.

How many people can even pronounce Tonga correctly, let alone know where it is?

At a distance of approximately 2000 km (1240 miles), Tonga is the second closest country to New Zealand (after New Caledonia).

After watching the first episode, I knew I'd be a huge, huge FAN~!  And I almost finished 5 seasons in one sitting... at work!

And that's the beauty of it when you worked in an animation studio  :flirt:

I joined today! I joined after I started to like Futurama after I saw BBS on Sky 1 and decided to buy ITWGY as soon as it was released in England. After that I went Futurama mad and started looking for more to do with it on the internet. Then one day I found PEEL and started looking at the discussions until today when I decided to join!
