Futurama wins this one hands down.
Although The Simpsons was initially funny at times, it has long since deteriorated to the point where it seems to serve little purpose except as a vehicle for celebrities & politicians hoping to build up their public profile, through a normally quite pointless guest appearance.
Futurama, even in the new DVDs has always been far better at the art of the parody, satirising everyday situations & in general has a far more grown up feel about it; even when it goes for a more melancholy feel it never has the tweeness that is so often a feature of so many Simpsons episodes.
It is a show that you actually have to watch & listen to, in order to get the full benefit of & it probably suffered for this with some viewers; in a similar way to Police Squad, & one is left wondering whether it might, in a similar way, benefit from a big screen treatment, akin to The Naked Gun series. Certainly, the impecable quality of both the animation & the soundtracks to the episodes & the DVDs lend credence to this idea; even on the small screen some of the 3-D space sequences (like the Star Wars battle parody in BBS) cry out for this treatment.
An additional point in its favour is that Futurama never sunk to the level of that cop out; that has become something of a Simpsons standard, the clip-show. Perhaps it is one of the few benefits the series accrued from being something of a bete noir with the network & only running to 72 episodes, but even when they did run episodes that broke down into several individual stories, those stories were composed of new & original material.
Finally, the UK TV schedules might just give some indication as to which series Sky believes is likely to attract viewers at, otherwise, dead times of the day:
The Simpsons is shown for 11 hours per week, spread over six days, on the one channel (Sky 1).
Futurama is shown for a minimum of 13.5 hours, spread over all 7 days of the week, on all three Sky general entertainment channels, at various times from early afternoon - late night & early morning & always preceeds The Simpsons, in their 1900 slot; almost giving the appearance that Futurama is being used to draw in the viewers for The Simpsons.

Ya what that guy said ha ha, but I would have to agree. Futurama is better. I enjoy Sci-Fi so to me Futurama is better. I would have to say that Futurama is very original. Like GlenP said, its great how each episode tells a new chapter. Its great. Im gonna bring it up a notch, bam!

The Simpsons was the most intelligent cartoon around about ten, maybe twelve years ago. It was smart, funny, and had that strange mixture of ongoing continuity that helps build the character of a series, yet it follwed Fry's rule of television almost precisely.
Ah, so much to look back at.
Futurama on the other hand is smarter, nerdier, and involves more that I am directly interested in and familiar with. Futurama for me has always been the better show.
With the exception, of course, of a few bad episodes. Which are mirrored by the few episodes of the Simpsons which stand out head and shoulders above the rest. Like "Homer's Oddysey", and the Monorail episode. They're almost of the same calibre as Futurama's gems IMO.

Aside from the fact that they're both Matt Groening animated series, Futurama and The Simpsons are very different animals.
The quality is perhaps more uneven than Futurama, but seasons 1-10 of The Simpsons are quite worthwhile, with many outstanding episodes. Season 13 onwards is probably best ignored, though there may be a few good episodes here and there.
