Looks like SCi Entertainment and Swedish-based developer, UDS, have picked up the rights to Futurama.

Canned is certainly one of the most hated words for a gamer to hear. It's a word that's right up there with TBA and delayed. Today, SCi Entertainment and Swedish-based developer, UDS, announced that they've picked up the exclusive publishing rights to Futurama, a series that was recently canceled by fox and was supposed to be canned in videogame form a long time ago.

Jane Cavanagh, Chief Executive officer at SCi Entertainment commented on the announcement by saying, “We are delighted to sign such an exciting mass market licence. Following the outstanding success of The Italian Job, this is a clear demonstration that global companies such as Fox have faith in the quality of SCi products. Added to existing titles such as The Great Escape and the next generation of the Rally Championship, Futurama provides SCi with a very strong line up for the 2003 Financial Year.”

While gameplay details are sketchy at best it was revealed that the genre of the game will be 3D action. Futurama is being developed by UDS, the developer behind World's Scariest Police Chases, and is scheduled for release later this year.

Because nobody knows where the old one is and it is full of such old info that a newer topic would be much better.

Wel anyway...back on topic...Hopefully it won't suck like all the Simpsons games made (minus the good 2D games). It sounds promising, sorta like a decent episode of Futurama. And if you take a decent Futurama episode and make it a game it's 100X better...unless the gameplay sucks.

Even if the gameplay isn't great the storyline could more than make up for it.

Yeah, it could, but it still depends.

Maybe it'll be like Leisure Suit Larry. That'd be fun, with Leela and all...

Storyline is good if it's an adventure title. But it must be an easy game to get. I'm getting sick of the 'get the 100 items to enter the next level' crap.

Maybe it'll be a Leisure Suit Larry parody with Amy, LaBarbara, and Leela. That would rock.

Two things I'm hoping for:

(1) Unlock all major characters. More experienced players would then have to overcome certain handicaps, such as Amy's klutziness, Kif's total lack of strength, or Zoidberg's distraction by edibles. I could whip everybody in "Tekken" or "DoA" with Leela; it's a whole other matter with the Professor. (Oy, remember Doctor Bosconovich?)

(2) Speaking of fighting games...a fighting game. Bender works Zapp into a corner and slams Zapp's head repeatedly in his door. (It would have to be impossible to win with Fry, though, unless he came with his own joystick, Leela, or worms.)

...oh, and nude code. Three things.

No Amy? Poop. Aw, forget the nude code, then. (Although things may change!) But there's Zoidberg! Hooray! "Each with their own strengths and weaknesses"--just as I hoped for! Whee! ...although given the cast, that was pretty much a given. (Fry? Strengths? Okay.)

Thanks, mArc!

Awesome, you get to play as Zoidberg. Now I'll buy the game no matter how bad it is. I am the game company's bitch.

Hey cool, it's also on GameCube! Does this mean if the game sells well, Futurama will be back for a 5th season?

Futurama is coming back for its 5th season next year. Game sales have little to do with if the show stays on the air or not. Even if it did, since this game isn't coming out until 2003, it'll be too late to keep the current staff on the show. Hence all our efforts to show our support to Fox now.

Although it's coming back for a so called 5th season it will be made up of left over season 3 and 4 episodes.

Re: the interview. This part worries me - "but it would all be rumours and hearsay."

I don't see what a Fleetwood Mac album and a fading-dast manufactured pop group have to do with it.

Admittedly, the second part of my wonderful joke may be lost on Americans, and some people probably haven't heard of Fleetwood Mac either. Why am I writing this again?

Yes, but I've never seen seasons 3 or 4, so maybe if the game goes well in Australia, Channel 7 will put Futurama back on.

I gotcha. You'd figure that since Rupert Murdoch is from Australia, they'd have parity with the U.S. broadcasts. Bad Fox!

From one of the articles linked off CGEF's main page:

The game, which is well into development, features a strong storyline written by the TV show’s scriptwriter and producer, J. Stewart Burns. Matt Groening has been heavily involved with the game from its conception. The game will feature most of the original voice artists from all the major territories. It features a custom-made cartoon rendering engine that captures the visual look and feel of the Futurama TV series. This, combined with the authenticity that the show's creator, writers and voice talent bring, means that the game will be as close as possible to playing real episodes from the show.

Did the Dreamcast also spend all its money on lottery tickets?
