I believe the professor has a finglonger in a later episode... suggesting that the events of asking a what if machine questions that occurred in AoI:1 actually did occur.... this is of course assuming that the what if machine is actually accurate.
Yes he does appear to have one in a later episode, however that doesn't mean he invented it, but that some one had invented it. "Farnsworth: Good news, everyone! I've invented a device that allows you to operate equipment from great distances. I call it "the fing-longer". [He is wearing a glove with a long index finger.] Observe. [He pulls out a rest and aims the fing-longer at a button on a piece of equipment.] And, here we go. [He misses the button a few times but eventually succeeds. The equipment, a sort of TV screen, turns on.] There! Fry: Ooh! Amy: Wow! Zoidberg: Ah! Farnsworth: Pretty long, eh? Fry: Yeah, it's really long. But what did you just turn on with it? Farnsworth: Oh, that's just the What-If machine I invented. You pose it a What-If question and it generates a video simulation of what would happen. Fry: Does it really work? Farnsworth: Of course it works! [He bashes Fry on the nose with the fing-longer.] It's just not very long. The What-If scenario ends. Farnsworth has been watching the whole thing on the What-If machine.] Farnsworth: So that's what things would be like if I'd invented the fing-longer. [He sighs.] A man can dream though. A man can dream. [Closing Credits.] " borrowed directly from the episode transcript to show that the professor didn't actually invent anything in the episode, but to get this show back on the road shouldn't some one answer a question and post another one?
