Fans within Germany will probably look forward the start of the dubbed 3rd Season of Futurama that starts off on Pro7 Monday 25th 21:15.
I was kind of puzzled when I read the title cause I didn't have an idea what episode that was: 'Das unheimliche Hupen', when I finally got the idea. Of course its 'The Honking'. What else? I thought about starting off a new thread to discuss stupid dubbing, episode titles and stuff in the new season (episode reviews make no sense I guess but dub review). I know its almost one week left. But why not...?

I think the same. I'm from germany and I don't like the german Version of Futurama. It's totally wrong translated.

My favourite is

"Dieses unheimliche Hupen", too. That's abig piece of shit.

Visit http://www.combrinck.com  to see who did all that!

Yes it's happening, its airing tonight.

I'm looking forward to the new (hopefully not feeble) attempt of Ivar...

I await serious critics on the dub of 3rd Season. Pro7 precautionary removed their website for Futurama (to avoid protests in their forums?)

My School just bought a DVD player, and my German class will watch episode 1 and 2 today, with German dubbing and subtitles. That will be... interesting...

The dub was not THAT bad.
In deed, the honking 'düt düt' was ridiculous but 'honk honk' ridiculous in the original, too.

The stupidest translations this time where imho:
'Haluzinationsbaby'
and
'Werwagenüberprüfung' for werecar routine

its getting better...but

It seems like the German dubbers are talking much faster than the original dubbers. Are the words in the German language longer or something? Or maybe I just think they talk faster because I don't understand German that good...

They did it again!!!
worse than ever? no, but several errors and funny sounding mistranslations made me laugh out / cry out loud.

Yesterday Pro7 aired 'Krieg auf Spheron 1'
OK I can cope with altmodisch for antiquing because nobody understood this anyway...but

one of the errors was when Fry shot the platform where Zapp was standing on with his horse:
'You spooked Felicity' was translated as 'Du gespenstige Glückseligkeit'

It makes you think---no it doesnt

any other remarks?

To me it sounds that the german dubbers are talking more slowly, the german bender seems to be on narcotics all the time

maybe we need to tell the people here what's wrong with it   ;)

The translator didn't figure that Felicity was the name of the horse. He made Zapp call Fry a "spooked felicity". Yay Ivar "I speak fluent English" Combrinck...

And on the speed of their talk: That's really slow German... That's part of why it sucks so much, it's lulling.

they kept saying Cryo-Genetik for cryogenic in Cryonic Woman like in the first episode. nobody told Ivar in between that genetics has nothing to do with cryogenic?

Speaking of dubs and stuff, I DLed a "How Hermes . . ." that has some kind of subtitles.  My friend who's taken some German determined it wasn't German.  Some examples:

Bureaucrat schaal 5 = Bureaucrat grade 5
Let hat spel beginnen = Let the games begin
Lintworm = tapeworm
Beste vriend = best friend

Anyone want to shed some light?

It'´s either Dutch or Flemish (Belgium).

And speaking of translations: Seeing as how the Germans translated "War is The H-word" in to "Krieg Auf Spheron-1" that's a prime expample as how translations destroy good jokes (especially puns). 5:1 says that "Parasites Lost" is called "Parasitten Verloren".

no, thats german.
i'm from belguim so i know the dutch transalation.

for example, 'let the games begin' is not 'let hat spel beginnen' in dutch, it is 'laat het spel beginnen'

and 'parasites lost' would be not 'parasitten verloren', its 'parasieten verloren'

"Krieg auf Spheron-1" is, "parasitten verloren" isn't really (the translated title is "Im Reich der Parasiten").
'let hat spel beginnen' is probably badly typed dutch. It sure isn't german (would be "Lasst die Spiele beginnen").

Yes, that's German, but stuff like:

Bureaucrat schaal 5 = Bureaucrat grade 5
Let hat spel beginnen = Let the games begin
Lintworm = tapeworm
Beste vriend = best friend

isn't. That's definately Dutch or Flemish, IMHO.

"Parasitten Verloren" was merely me taking a qualified guess as to how they'd translate the title (I hate seeing a good pun lost due to translation, it's the same thing in Denmark).

So the last dub was not that invidious though I could have missed some shit.
But now Pro7 acts in the same strange way like Fox and ends this season after 4 Episodes and starts again in summer...

German fans, post some of the horribly mangled translations. I find them hilarious.

We simly call them IVARs (Ivar Combrinck is the german "translator" for Futurama and TheSimpsons - so if you ever come across the phrase "einen Ivar bauen" or "to pull an Ivar" - this means someone made a translation-error you could identify without knowing the original version.

With "gespenstische Glückseligkeit" one of my favourites has allready been mentioned.

Other great Ivar's:
O: Ctrl+Alt+Delete
I: Alternativkontrollöschung
Ivar seems not ever to have heard of this shortcut - so he made the up the word "Alternativecontrolldeletion" which makes exactly as much sense in german as it does in english.

O: The Golden Age of Muttonchops
I: Das Goldene Zeitalter der Hammelrippchen
Hammelrippchen means mutton-loin-rips - whell done, ivar!

O: Execute function: Control-Shift-Kill.
I: Exekutionsfunktionskontrolle ausfahren töten.

Same as above - Some german futurama-fans once sent Ivar a language course - "english for beginners". Seems not to have arrived. "Execitonfunctioncontrol" doesn't make any sense but even worse: "ausfahren töten" means "extend kill" except it is grammatically wrong. Now i know, who translated my VCR's operating manual!

O: The female Leela's problem is purely medical.
I: Leelas weibliches Problem ist rein medizinisch.
which translated back means "Leela's female problem is purely medical" - Ivar can't tell a noun from an adjective.

O: Remember when those cyborgs enslaved humanitiy?
I: Erinnnerst du dich, wie die Cyborgs die Menschheit verschluckt haben?
meaning "Remember when the cyborgs SWALLOWED humanity" - I've seen better babelfish-translations.

O: No, I'm comfy.
I: Nein, mir reicht's.
which means "no, i'm fed up" or "i've got enough of this"

O: Baseball was as boring as mom and applepie, that's why they jazzed it up...
I: Baseball war so langweilig wie Mom und Apfelkuchen; deswegen wurde es abgeschafft...
meaning: "Baseball was as boring as mom and applepie, that's why it's been disestablished"

O: I think the boy's got somethin'.
I: An der Einlassung des Jungen ist was dran, gebe ich zu.
You can hardly translate that back, because the german word "Einlassung" doesn't exist. (Inletting would come close though) Seems like Ivar's german is as bad as his english. Hey why not let Schwarzenegger translate some Series?

O: Dungeons and Dragons
I: Verliese und Drachen
Yes - Dungeons and Dragons is called Dungeons and Dragons in German as well.

Whell - i could go on and on - but many Ivar's are hard to translate back. Even more aren't really funny. Excuse my bad english - but at least I didn't claim being a translator.

Nice findings of Ivar there shooteminthebac.

You forgot to mention that Ivar is also responsible for the German translation of FamilyGuy, which is aired now on Pro7. Horrible, plain horrible.
We flamed Combrink quite often here, yet again he deserves every little bit of it, for each and every mistake he made, and you know that there is an endless amount of them.

Search around and you'll find many threads where we talked about him, don't bump them if you don't have something more or less important to add, though. This one was fine. If you need advice on how things work out here, you'll possibly find this little FAQ quite helpful.

After all, enjoy your stay here at Nerd-world.  :)

I'm impressed to see my old thread reinvoked. It took me back to this glorious forum.
I gave up watching or supporting the german version of Futurama and began to delete my VCRs with the episodes without ever watching them because they are no fun anymore. Thanks Ivar.

Whats wrong with this? it used to be cool not to open a new thread for the same thing discussed before. The posting was on topic and no other topic may deal with this problem (it is really a problem)

urgs what a ugly avatar I made there for me.

Whell thank you very much!

Lately i noticed two more Ivars, when i watched Monk and CSI.

Monk: A environment activist chained to a tree was killed by a guy who chopped down the tree with a caterpiller. While he was killed he called the police with his mobile. Now the german dialogue as far as i remember:
Stottlemeyer "Und er hat noch die Polizei angerufen?"
Randy: "Ja, mit der Telefonzelle"
German+english-speaking lads are loughing already i guess, for those who only speak english: "He called the police?" - "Yes with the phone-booth" Good equipped tree huh? - I guess the english original was cellphone - which would be Mobiltelefon or Handy in german.

The CSI-Ivar: A waitress is suspected of murdering a customer of hers, the implied motive: "Er hat ihr nie einen Tip gegeben" which means "He never gave her a hint." The translator didn't know the second meaning of the word tip, i suppose.

Now this was a little off-topic, but i'm gonna translate some more original-ivars again if i can spare some minutes.
