Well, I've been wondering about this for quite a while, so I thought I should start a thread about it....
Do you think the Futurama writers/producers should make a reference to the Pokemon franchise (games/anime/etc)?
I've heard that there was an episode of the Simpsons where Bart imagined different cartoons in his classroom, and Pikachu was among them.
And since Matt Groening had a reference to Pokemon in The Simpsons, I was thinking that maybe he would do that for Futurama as well.
I've always wanted them to do a parody/reference of Pokemon on Futurama. It makes me wonder why they haven't done this in the series yet (Pokemon's been parodied before on South Park and even the Simpsons).
I can't understand why Futurama hasn't referenced the Pokemon games/anime yet. Pokemon certainly has elements of sci-fi in it (such as time traveling Pokemon like Celebi, and even the time and space legendaries: Dialga and Palkia, and items like Pokeballs). ^^;
This is what I was thinking they could do, in Futurama:
In some episode, the Planet Express crew could make a delivery to, visit, and/or discover a planet where Pokemon live. I could imagine Fry catching a Pikachu (done in Futurama art style, of course). And to make it even more like the Pokemon anime, they could have it sit on Fry's shoulder!! XD
But then again, I wouldn't expect the Futurama staff to go that far. Instead of doing a parody, they could just have a reference. They could do something as simple as, show a Futurama-style Pokeball in the background of some episode and that would satisfy me.
Or, they could have Fry "find" Ash's original hat/outfit and comment on that, saying that a chacter named Ash owned that hat/outfit on the TV show Pokemon, which started airing a few years before he was frozen. Hehe, I'd love it if he mentioned Ash!! XD
