My god, can it be?! Can the wait be over for those of us who don't have cable or an ugly sat dish on the side of our horrible little council semis? Futurama hits Channel 4 at 9.35 PM this saturday. Annoyingly there have been very few ads to advertise it, hardly any press coverage but you can bet yours truly will now be taping it - and it will be the first time I've ever seen it without the usual realvideo fuzz-o-vision going on!

All I can say is HURRAY AT LEAST CHANNEL 4 IS STILL COMING UP WITH THE GOODS EVEN IF THE BBC SUCK ASS!

yeah Channel 4 have been really dragging their feet about it. They originally planned to show it in January so it's taken them long enough!
The show actually starts at 9:30pm with a quick behind the scenes look with Matt Groening.
The bad news is that after the first episode, the series moves to Thursday nights at 6pm and repeats on Sunday during T4 which of course will subject us to edits  :(
No matter how hard people from channel 4 assure me it won't I think we'll be saying hello to plenty of edits, especially when the second season starts straight after the first one.

It was kind of weird to see it on TV! Everything looked so colourful, vibrant and cool, especially when previously all I'd seen was the Realmovie episodes. I can actually make out what is going on in the intro sequence for the first time (I didn't even see that there were cast members being whizzed along the transport tubes before!)

Still, like you say, I bet you it will get edited from now on. No more "You bastards!" from Fry...and will they cut the sex scenes?

I'll still be taping 'em anyway!

I was also suprised to see how colorful it looked in TV, when I saw the first episode back in March from MTV3 here (I had seen realvideos and MPEGs before). And I'm glad the censorship-politics in Finland are quite liberal.

Do they REALLY cut out something like that (mild expressions and even hints to sex) in UK?

Sky one sure do, sad bastasds.
They did it loads of times to the simpsons,
for example the cut out the very funny scene where homer asked marge to give him $500 for sex.

It's going to be hit or miss I think, I remember seeing an episode of Friends on at 6 when they included Chandler screaming "you bastard!". So they may not edit Futurama much.
I don't think the first season will be edited much, but the second season was much more racy and adult in my opinion so I can't see them not editing it at all.
That said, I spoke to someone at Channel 4 today and he said it should be "exactly the same as the US version".
I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

I think it will be edited, simply because of the amount of little sly edits Channel 4 did with their recent airing of Family Guy. One scene where peter guns down Hanson was cut short, and another scene where he calls Mr Tumnus a "Goat bastard" was also cut.

Funny innit, any kid can pick up a dictionary and see the word but they still cut it out, and any kid sees worse violence in an episode of, oh I dunno, Eastenders...but when a cartoon show is mildly subversive "Victorian" British morals rear their ugly outdated heads again!

Well it's a good thing they didn't cut Bender's "Bite my shinny metal ass" out. I thought they did.

Maybe moralists _still_ have difficulty accepting that just because a show is a cartoon doesn't mean that it's aimed for kids.

Channel 4 UK just showed "The Series Has Landed". No edits (hooray!) and the added bonus of Bender's end credits song that I'd never even heard before...

"She'll be shootin people with rayguns when she comes!"

Class stuff. Well done Channel 4. Something decent to watch on thursdays at 6pm instead of Deep Throat (sorry Deep Space)9

Oh and PS, thanks CGEF-ers for using my chico robot as one of the header graphics! I'm chuffed to bits!

yeah I was pretty pleased Channel 4 didn't edit the second episode one bit.
I even phoned and congratulated them  :)
They've suprisingly impressed me so far although I was a bit annoyed that the voice over woman talked over alot of Bender's song during the final credits. Apart from that, well done Channel 4!

Damn, we didn't get Bender's song in the U.S.
Lousy FOX...

Anyway, could you post the full lyrics?

Here it is:

"She be coming round the mountain when she comes, She be coming round the mountain when she comes," I'll kill you Amy! "She be coming round the mountain...

" I be riding six white horsese when she comes"  Hey I'm pretty good.

"Well I shoot her with my raygun when she comes, I shoot her with my raygun when she comes, Yes I shoot her with my raygun,I shoot her with my raygun,I shoot her with my raygun when she comes."

"I be blasting all the humans in the world,I be blasting all the humans in the world, I be blasting all the humans,I be blasting all the humans, I be blasting all the humans in the world"  One more time!

Radfield, I watched that episode again and on my taped copy he does say "JFK Junior Airport"....! I was wondering if they might change that, and the missing shuttle on the theme park ride but nope...both were left in.

BTW was it the sunday or the thursday showing you were watching, because the sunday ones are apparently more heavily edited than the thursday evening ones. Don't ask me why!

The thursday edition, it sounds to me like alien manor house, but could be a dodgy recording.

I just switched on channal 4 a few minutes ago, looking forward to the only episode I havent seen and only got to see the last minute of it.
What the hell is Channal 4 doing, if they were going to change the timeslot to 5:30 the least they could have done was mention this during the ending credits of last weeks episode.

The guy in the tube says "Radio City Mutant Hall" and the bits that were edited out of tonight's episode (Loves Labours...) were:
Leela: "Guys, do you mind"
Bender: "Here you go, you can use this as an eyepoker" (hands Leela a fork)
(I thought that was a really silly edit as they included Bender later on reminding Leela to not forget the fork)
Also when Zapp says "You're abviously confused and arowsed" they edited out "and arowsed"
After next week's episode they will be moving Futurama back to the 6pm slot. These two weeks were apparently a test to see if it did well. (Yeah, I know it's stupid, tell it to them)

Curse you Channel 4! I just get through praising you for actually showing the series, then you A) change the damned time without telling anyone (luckily someone tipped me off or I would've missed videotaping it) and B) cut stupid bits out again!

Curse your necrotic eyes! Have some balls! If anyone would've phoned in to "right to reply" to complain about the bits you edited out, I would've gladly gone round to their houses and given them the kicking they so richly deserved.

A very miffed Poonaniman

In reality I'm a pessimistic-optimist.

C4 just don't care about viewers after the way they treated Babylon 5 fans and any American Football fans.

I wrote and complained to them, did I get a response, did I hell.

Luckily they didn't cut any of tonight's episode "Fear of a Bot Planet" but when Leela said "If only we had a couple of minutes to think about it" they should have cut to a break because that was the joke. Did they Hell!!
This is a prime example of the lack of respect for many of it's programs like Futurama and Angel. They don't care how the show is presented, they just look to cut things out and throw it on the air anyhow. It can't have been cheap to buy the show so they could at least take some care in screening it.
