What do people needs DVDs for? Any self-respecting Futurama nerdlinger can just flick on their inner movie screen to watch all the episodes. Though I might just pop in a disc or two for the audio commentaries.

Also people need to develop thicker skins.

Teral, futurama nerdlinger (and proud of it)

DT88 I agree. Cryonic Woman was so bad since I got the DVD's I've watched that episode about 3 times. I've forgotten it existed. A good episode is going to have to required for the day of The Croynic Woman. I am not watching that ep.

Really? That was one of my favorite episodes. Minus the Pauly Shore bit. I liked the whole revisiting the Cryogenic Lab part.

Knowone knows yet. What we do know is that the more people who buy the DVD's, and the more people who watch them on TV, the more likely it will return afterwards...

I believe technically the Futuramathon is all 72 episodes in a row in under 26 hours...  it's been awhile since I've done that....

The animation looks so bad in the first episodes it's weird. I never really notice which is also weird.

I actually love the animation from the first season.  I feel like the characters move more naturally in the first few episodes; at some point in season 2, they just got "stiffer," and that's always bugged me.  I was thrilled to see a little more fluidity from them in the movie preview.

I wish the movie DVD isn't interlaced, like the series DVDs. Watching it on a computer is kinda annoying.

I think the animation has always been great. The only problem in the first season is the characters being off-model quite a bit. Check Bender out at the beginning of A Fishful Of Dollars when they're all sitting around the table, he's waaay off-model...

I think it's just badly deinterlaced. You only seem to get artifacts on scenes where it looks like they fudged with the speed.

I love everything about the first season. I like the...I don't know...innocence about it...there are an awful lot of funny episodes later, of course, and the series as a whole grows deeper and richer, but overall I think the first season is perfect as it is. I'm not necessarily saying it's the "best"; I just feel it fits together so well as a self-contained unit.

It's not the animation that bugs me the animation is amazing. Its what Otis said. Everyone just looks really different because the show had just started they were off model. I look at the chacters from the 1st season and just compared they don't look as good because over time they changed. I know that they were still working out the kinks it's just weird.

Yes Zapp Branninagan.

Sorry for not making that clear. I don't use my brain much except school (I have a B ave. so it does work... most of the time.) but other than that my brain is on the Fantasy Planet. That damn Senior-itis setting in already it's only been a few weeks of school.

I found something while watching "Love's Labors Lost in Space" today!

Look at the animal right in the middle, just above Nibbler. Is it a mimic, or is it related to the Nibblonians somehow? Just thought I'd share...

@Frida: I'm pretty sure it's the four-legged mimic because I don't think that Nibble would eat an animal that was related to him. But I'm in the process of trying to get the DVD to play so I'll get back to you on that.

Edit: I am positive that it is the four-legged mimic. If you look closely (you can see it better on the TV) there are 4 legs and you can clearly see the mane. If you compare the mane from when it was mimicing Leela they are exactly the same.

Nice find Frida!

I agree with KM73. I really love the first season because it's when Fry is getting used to the future. By the middle or so of the second season he seems to be adjusted already. I mean I love all the seasons but their's just something about the first one....I don't know. I guess the best way to put it is those are the classics.

Yes! That's more or less what I meant. Just something about the first season...and I didn't even see them in order originally, but a while ago when adult swim actually started showing them in order I did watch about the first 20 or so episodes sequentially and it really struck me how great the first season was. But overall there are only about 6 or 7 eps that I don't rank very highly anyway. (And even those still have redeeming points to them).

Well they all are in the early years, what with the layout artists and such getting used to drawing the new characters. That reminds of one of the commentators in the I, Roommate commentary (Rich Moore?) calling the Leela drawings terrible.

That's true, they all had to get used to drawing the characters, but with that Bender example I gave there's simply no excuse for that. Even I could have drawn him better. He wasn't just a bit off model, his entire body shape was so far out that it really needed to be drawn again. It was way more off-model than a lot of the Futurama Comic drawings are. It was only a short scene too so it wouldn't have taken long to re-draw just Bender...

According to the first post's date, 5th day in Europe, still 4th in Americas.

I've been too busy with school to complete the marathon fully. Currently, I'm watching Crimes of the Hot (for those who don't know, not the first episode... if you didn't know that, get off this board!) for a greenhouse gases project. I'm actually even thinking of taking in the episode for class tomorrow. Now that I've broken out the DVDs, I'll start watching the episodes tomorrow or over the weekend, starting at 1 and trying to catch up with you all.

Maybe, I notice it quite a lot in the DVD menus, as well as when any of the characters talk.

More than looking different, what I found most intriguing was how different some of the characters sounded.

Then again, why is Leela's jawline so prominent?
