I wish I could articulate my theories as well as you do Frida. Like Sine Wave, I hadn't really thought of having a contiuous plot in the movies. Hmm, that would be indeed interesting.

Any ideas on when the first DVD movie might come out in the UK? I hear Billy West is coming to the London Comic convention, will we find out something about it then?

I hope it's around the same time, but if it's not then I'll just import it from America and pay for express shipping...

I speculate that the movies probably won't have a continuous plot running thru them. That would indeed make it an epic, but I don't feel that there was any indication that the writers were planning that.

I am surprised, though, to not find more concern being expressed at how much Bender features in them.

Bender is Futurama's "breakout character". A "breakout chacacter" is a character in a television series which becomes popular amongst the audience and plays a larger role than what the writers originally intended for it. Notable examples of "breakout characters" are Stewie Griffin from "Family Guy", Steve Urkel in "Family Matters", and the famous Authur "The Fonz" Fonzarelli from "Happy Days" (who later became the creator of "jumping the shark", when he literally jumped over a shark).

Anyways, I think viewers, at the moment, are more excited for the new Futurama material we will be blessed with instead of worrying that Bender is planning on pulling the series under. Even though Bender is playing the starring character for these movies, it's not like he's getting all of the attention. We already know Herme's going to be decapitated, Leela's getting married to someone other than Fry, and Fry's going to find out what the time sphere means to him.

Frito, why do you think it's not Fry? He's wearing what appears to be a tux in the Comic Con comic:

Are you talking to me? If you are, it's Frida, not Frito. Amazingly, I always thought that one day somebody was bound to call me Frito or Fritos instead of Frida.

We're pretty sure that's she's not getting married to Fry. We assumed this because of how the description was set up for the first movie. Check page 4 (or something) for more information.

Amazingly, I thought I should for some reason. Hmmm...

Looks like he rented the same tux he used the first time they got hitched. Leela's dress is different, though.

Well tuxes are rather more non-descript than wedding dresses.

Actually, comparing his tux from "Time Keeps on Slipping" to the one in the preview, it might be the same suit. We can't tell if he (in the preview) is dressed the same way when he was getting married, though. The tuxedo he wore during the time skips was buttoned-up and had a red bow, while the one in the preview of the first movie might be stripped instead.

In Futurama, they do recycle formal wear. I just found out yesterday and even more today. Fry's tux that we were talking about earlier was not only shown during their wedding, but he was also dawning it on the Professor's sesquicentennial. Also, the tuxedo he wore in "A Flight to Remember" was also worn to the post-Oscar party in "That's Lobstertainment!". I do think that other characters such as the Professor and Dr. Zoidberg will repeat their outfits, too. The only characters that will probably never repeat any of their clothing that is saved for special occasions would be Leela and Amy because with dresses, you can have a lot more variety. Leela's already had three different wedding dresses and countless other formal attire- I don't even know how long they can keep up with such a variety.

There is no hard evidence either way that Leela is/is not getting married to Fry.  The five minute teaser trailer never shows Fry in a tux.  Only the phrasing in the official ad ("Leela finds true love" ), the fact that Leela's parents are watching what appears to be a wedding from underground (Fry would not allow that to happen, would he?), and some shots showing a Fry happy to be time traveling to 2000 suggest that Leela is not intending to marry Fry.

PS: Regarding Bender as a "breakout" character.  My personal take, watching my relatives watch Futurama, is that Bender and Zapp draw people in, but Fry/Leela gets them hooked.  Amy and Hermes don't seem to make much of an impression either way.

Sean? I doubt it, probably OD'ed a long time ago as any self-respecting jazz noodler should. It could be the Professor for security or Zapp or a new character we haven't seen yet. Maybe Fry found out that for all her mutant steamy looks, Leela's a dud in the sack. Zapp wouldn't know the difference since she is the only woman he's been with.

I doubt it's the professor, as he was seen walking her down the aisle (instead of Morris) in the 5-minute teaser.

If Fry loves her as much as I think he does, I don't think this would be such a huge issue.

I mean, it's obviously an issue in any romantic relationship, but I'd like to think they'd try to work out any sexual problems they were having before giving up on each other entirely.  Anyway, if The Sting and TKoS are taken seriously, then it's Fry who has trouble in bed.

Why is Leela shocked of what her eye has caught, but Fry's there, pretty much shrugging to the crime he is witnessing? Did Bender's time traveling change Fry's attitude towards his best friends? If the true Fry was there watching Bender fall under the control of Nudar, he'd be just as shocked as Leela, unless if Fry had became acquainted with the fact that Bender has turned to evil(er sides).

Maybe she's just shocked that someone is strolling around naked at her wedding. But maybe that normal in the 31st century.

You don't know what happened between Fry and Leela. There could be a riff that develops during the movie(s).

For all those who doubt that Bender is the break-out character, you're wrong. I actually did a survey at my school a few years back and the overwhelming majority of people liked Bender the best. It's like with Happy Days; when the average person thinks Happy Days, they think Fonzie. When the average person thinks Futurama, they think Bender.

In the first season, you saw Fry-oriented episodes. In the second and third season, it was more of a broad range (Put Your Head, How Hermes Requis., Clone of My Own, etc.). In some of the third and fourth seasons, you saw more and more Bender-oriented episodes, like Godfellas, 30% Iron Chef, and Obsoletely Fabulous. Personally, Zoidberg and Zapp are my favorite characters, but they weren't the "breakout" character for the series.

Look at Family Guy. Their movie was based around Stewie, the breakout character. The first Futurama movie is called "Bender's Big Score", and revolves around Bender because he is the breakout chracter.

It's annoying that it still hasn't appeared. I would say let's wait for the Fantastic Four DVD for the trailer, but then that's an edited version again. We'll get more than we've got now but not the full 5 mins which sucks  :(...

Maybe Cohen/Groening etc. didn't think it was a finished piece good enough to release. I remember Cohen saying something like it was just finished some amount of hours before he showed it. Might be contractual obligations that won't allow it too. Oh well, in about 3 months we'll have the real deal. After 5 years, what's a few months.

Currently, Juliet, I don't think Fox has announced a Region 2 release date. Look online at Fox Store or Amazon to see if they have Region 2 available for pre-order. Otherwise, you might as well pre-order a Region 1 copy and hope your DVD player is Region-Free.

We can presume that the DVD will be available at most retailers. Wherever you found the Family Guy movie DVD when it was released or currently find Simpsons/Family Guy/Futurama season sets, you're likely to find the Futurama movie DVDs. Fox wouldn't wimp out on their loyal retailers.
