I haven't posted here in a while, nor have I really watched Futurama for two years (mostly because I was always planning on doing this in the back of my mind). But the series impending return is rekindling that ol' torch I once carried for Futurama, and I resolved to watch the original 72 episodes one last time. Not content to just play them in order, I'm watching them in a completely random order, to be determined by a Bingo cage with each ball corresponding to the episode number (with O73-75 removed, and in production order, of course). Anyone in the vicinity will join me, and I will also be listening to the commentary, deleted scenes, and other featurettes related to that episode (although I usually can't interest anyone else in those). The goal is to finish by the end of summer.
Then I figured, why not stop there? Why not come onto Peelified after every episode and do a quick mini reviews? The topic may even become a hub for a new generation of PEELers who want to express their thoughts without getting yelled at for resurrecting some of those century old review threads. Or maybe some old timers will come in here and become nostalgic. Or maybe this topic will be quickly closed and/or fade into obscurity. One way to find out...
We launched our marathon earlier tonight with Fry and the Slurm Factory, not a bad start. As Charlie and the Chocolate Factory spoofs go, this one was good enough, but not terribly original. And like any show, Futurama needed a little time to come into its own; the characters sometimes felt a bit off and the writing was occasionally a bit weak. Still, there were a number of hilarious lines, and there was still a lot here to remind me why I am a huge fan of this show.
My Rating: 8/10
Line of the Night: "Tell them I hate them!" -The Professor
Other Thoughts: -In the opening moments of the commentary, Lew Morton is asked what a Yak-Face is. He says that it's an extremely rare Star Wars action figure only available in Korea. Says David X. Cohen: "Neerd!" DXC calling anyone a nerd is strangely endearing and hilarious, be sure to check it out.
Anyway, I expect to have another one up Saturday. In the meantime, any thoughts related to Futurama, in particular Fry and the Slurm Factory? Let's do this!
