'Bout time we had a new discussion thread in here as opposed to games and spam. Here's one that I don't think has been beaten to death before:

Assuming that you were hurled back in tiem to when H G Wells invented the time machine, and he agreed to drop you off in the year 3000, which mode of transportation would be your favourite?

Now be honest, you all want to ride the T-Rex, don't you?

Tubes would be an extremely convenient form of travel, as long as there isn't that traffic where everybody's stuck and smushed together (a claustrophobe's nightmare). Quick local transportation with no accidents, no breakdowns, no fossil fuel dependencies, no pollution, and no having to do any work. Plus, there'd be that rush you'd get from flying through a tube at high speeds, as well as cool sights.
I'd love to be able to use a jetpack for casual transportation, too. And a hover bike (not like the one Kif bought with stupid wings, though - more like a small motorcycle-type vehicle or something) would also be very cool.

By the way, excellent thread and poll idea, tnuk.   :)

Well, if this weren't on-topic, i'd say Puppeteer Stepping Disks. It is on-topic, though, so of all the modes of transit on Futurama, the tubes are definately the best. Except for the drive-thrus, the lines seemed terribly uncomfortable.

I want tubes!  Every time I go to the bank and use one of those suction tube things I wish I could go along for the ride.  Too bad in real life the pressure gradient from the suction would probably blow your eardrums out...

so you don't use air suction. something more nifty and futuristic, like antigravity, or force fields, or something.

I would love to have the PE ship. Zooming across the universe at near light speed sounds pretty good to me! Also moving the universe around me would make me feel pretty important. Not to mention it has the gunz.

In addition to destroying NNY with my T-Rex, I'd also like a set of wings similar to Bender's in "Hell is Other Robots."

...where's the Nimbus?

The PE ship would be kinda cool. I mean, it works in space, in the atmosphere and (even though it's not supposed to) under water.

Plus, it's really crappy, what with the lion (well, now that it's in a cage...), the Dark Matter incinerators and - best of all - the alcohol-addict autopilot.

Sounds good, I'll take it.

Tubes for sure, such an efficient and effective mode of transportation you simply say the name of the place you want to be and before you know it you're there... Brilliant    :D

If they had tubes running across various countries and continents now that would be even more impressive!

Also, nice topic Totalnerduk   :)

PE Ship. Anywere at the tip of my fingers, and 200% fuel efficiency! And maybe I'd get to pair up with a hot chick and a robot to help me fly it.

Good call, but there are only ten poll places. I had to leave out some options. That's what "other" is for.

Since Earthicans of the 31st century still haven't discovered the simple principle behind Heisenberg Compensators, I'll take the good ship Planet Express Ship (and I'll need the mechanic too).

Though I wonder how the Nimbus would perform n competent hands...

I like the idea of the tubes, But some form of a Hover Platform would be good as it can anywhere, But the tubes can only go set places. Still LOVE the idea of tubes though better then buses or cars or trains ( unless they all can fly, which would be cool and very futurama like)

Great topic. Yet another way I can tout my unnatural attraction to Leela. I'd ride anywhere in anything with her, and surely the best ride would be sitting behind her on her little flying scooter. "Hold tight!" "You already know it!"

Of the items listed, the PE ship is pretty damn awesome.  Go anywhere in less that a week, survive about anything and you can make it talk like Sigourney Weaver. Oh yeah, and Leela normally flies it.

^So i take it you like Leela...^   :p

Only two people have chosen T-Rex (me & WU32) I thought that would be quite popular. It's a dinosaur people!!!! but i'm now reconsidering the PE ship. There could be a whole planet of T-Rexes (sp?)  :laff: :laff: :laff:. (so i like dinosaurs - they can eat people   :p)

The tubes would be fun and all, but you'd be limited to wherever the tubes would take you. I'd go for the Planet Express Ship because then the sky... no, the universe would be the limit!...

Funny line, that. It's a 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' reference. Neat.

Anyway... Am I the only one who's wondered why 'Futurama' has no teleporters? I had to invent one for my very first fanfic. Do you know how hard it is to invent a teleporter!?!

^ Well, because it doesn't fit the needs of the show. As it is, the ship almost always parks a million miles away from where the crew needs to go. I guess you can't have a lot of funny dialog during near-instantaneous travel.  :p

As an aside: I've never read the comics, but issue #30 has a transporter on the cover:  http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/15-000820-1/
