The DVD audio commentairies are great but also give away many great things to learn and cherish. So what things did you learn about Futurama and stories that you think were important or funny ect.

I learn't that the Nibbler bit in Ep. 1 was extremely important. The talking of secrets and the animatic clearly point to him being important as he was there very early on and not cut.

Curtis was originally fry's first name.  Leela was originally supposed to be 30.  Many of the voices were matched with the characters.  Tons of little errors were pointed out (mainly from people on the internet pointing them out and david cohen just restating them).  John DiMaggio is the only main actor who watches the show (not all from dvd; some from other sites, and how billy west stated some of the stuff).  Also his laugh is creepy, or at least exactly like benders.

A fish full of dollars originally used pop tarts.

Commentaries were probably done while they were making season 4.

Billy west has never watched the news; matt groening has never seen star trek; david cohen watches star trek probably a little too much.

Rough draft studios uses a coffee stain as a logo.

The nimbus is modeled off of a can of ham.

Hmm that is a few of the things learned.

Yeah the audio commentairies were great. I learned that all robot eyes are square and all human eyes are round so they use Lucy liu bot eyes square and Lucy Lui head in the jar eyes are round.

Yeah John DiMaggio's laugh is Bender. that's his real laugh.

The #9 guy was originally supposed to be part of a caste system.

David Cohen never saw "Titanic".

Hermes was originally named Dexter.

The animators had some weird early ideas about the characters. In the end Matt Groenings original thoughts more or less prevailed.

The hyper chicken lawyer was originally a suggestion for Kif.

John DiMaggio is a very funny guy.

I also thought that with the Simpsons but then C4 showed a documentary (very similar to the DVD one...) and they said it like 'Graining'

That the creators of Futurama visit my website  :D

Which is probably very naughty of them - I know that writers on Star Trek have a clause in their contract that prohibits them from looking at fan-created stuff for legal reasons (ie, some nerd could sue over alleged theft of ideas). But hey, stick it to The Man!

The funniest thing on the DVDs is watching it in French. The voices they use on the dub are hilarious - Hermes is more camp than Jamaican, but Zoidberg is pretty good. They also seem to leave out the more "American" terms, e.g. no Fox or McDonalds.

I also learnt that John Di Maggio has the wickedest laugh since Sid James.

I learned that when John DiMaggio does the voice for Bender, when Benders getting high on electricity John rubs his throat up and down on his adams apple really fast for the sound effect.

According to this website it'll be realeased april 3rd 2002 (I'm not sure how reliable it is). Read more here:

Upcoming Region 4 DVDs

BTW, they list the season 2 DVD set too. It should be released on June 5th 2002.  Again, I'm not sure about the reliability, but it is being confirmed by this site:

FBO Entertainment FUTURAMA Season 2 (AUS)

Maybe it's already common knowledge, but I haven't seen anything about it yet.  :p

I thought Fry's french voice was fairly close in accent and I liked that they actually sang "Hell Is Other Robots" in French, which was cool - Leela's french actress isn't quite as good as Katey Sagal when it comes to singing though  :hmpf: She's not off-key but she sounds like she's strugling.

The funniest thing was watching the Millennium (2000) countdown in Italian. They didn't dubb the other languages at all, they replaced the actual Italian people bit of the countdown (8 or VIII) with just one Italian saying it instead  and the final "Uno" was the image of the whole world and the sound of one guy saying it really pathetically.
You'll just have to watch it  :laff:   :laff:

I learned that Dave Cooper does or did concept art for the show. Check out his comics. They are disturbing and hilarious.
